Bruce Brown for Jordan Clarkson + 2nds
Ill offer this idea for:
-Raptors swap out Brown for Clarkson while freeing up space under tax threshold to make an offer to Trent Jr.
-Jazz look to create more 2025 cap flexibility as the position themselves to continue to keep selling cap space or picks while they incrementally build
To Utah
-Bruce Brown (1 year, $23 million)
To Toronto
-Jordan Clarkson (2 years, $28.4 million)
-2029 2nd round pick
-2030 2nd round pick
Why?
-Raptors get further under tax apron to be able to max an offer to Trent between BAE and full NTPMLE, somewhere in neighbourhood of 3 years, $27 million with a player option on 3rd year.
Quickley/Clarkson/Mitchell
Trent?/Dick/Walter
Barrett/Agbaji/Temple
Barnes/Olynyk/Vezenkov?
Poeltl/Boucher/Mogbo (Two Way)
-Utah adds $9 million upfront to gain $14 million in cap space for 2025 off-season at expense of 2 distant 2nd round picks
Sexton/Collier/FA?
WIlliams/George/FA?
Brown/Sensaubaugh/FA?
Markannen/Collins/FA?
Kessler/Eubanks/FA?

Doesn't this just make it so Utah can't extend Lauri?

I think its time to just admit Masai made the wrong call on Brown.
I also think they have zero reason to pay Trent
And Utah has no reason to pay to dump Clarkson, take away Lauri flexibility.

I think we will hold him until the TDL and see if a
contending team wants to add him at that point
Agree with you there is no point to paying Trent after drafting walters

We can't add salary, we have just enough for Lauri's R+E, which feels inevitable given our cap preservation.

Good idea in theory but how many contenders have enough non-toxic expendable contracts to trade for $23m? Brown is useful but a $23m role player is a stretch for contenders especially those who aren’t allowed to add salary or aggregate contracts.

The problem is most of the teams that could use Brown are tax/apron teams that need to send out more salary than they take back. Most of these type teams don't really have the salary to send out anyway. I like Brown as a roleplayer but those types of players can't make $23 m/season anymore under the new CBA.

Agree I don't see a point of GTJ back to TOR. Toronto a handful of 24-and-under guys who can play at SG: Dick, Walter, Barrett, Mitchell, Agbaji, Freeman-Liberty (if kept)
Agree it was a mistake to pick up Brown's option, particularly as they had already decided to move on from Trent by the draft (and Trent was the only significant cap hold). A player like Brown who is overpaid by $10M or so is only an asset if you take back even worse money. Toronto may or may not have been able to use the extra $23M in cap space, but operating far short of the tax line has advantages as well.
Brown may yet prove effective at leading the bench. If he does, and TOR is in the play-in, they probably keep him. If Brown plays like last season, or TOR is lottery bound, I suspect Brown will be a late February cut. I just don't see him getting traded because of the value problem.
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

NGL this is starting to feel like the Dragic situation again. Just hoping we wont use his contract to buy at the TDL this time around

The Jazz have no use for cap space in the future as they have shown incompetent at using cap space.

If Toronto is looking to reduce payroll, the trade for a player close to Brown is Keldon Johnson. Johnson makes $4m less and is on a declining contract (down to $17.5m the next 2 years).
Johnson gives the Raptors a backup at several positions and is a better scorer than Brown.
For the spurs they get a player in a final year. Castle can get seasoned in the G-league while the Spurs have a backup PG for Paul. Allowing Jones to be paired in a trade for a big.
The big reveal is Cissoko getting more playing time.

Lmao.
Let me guess, you think cap space is for signing FA's and nothing else, right?
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

They blew $43m in cap space last year on Jordan Clarkson and John Collins to try to trade them in the 2024 offseason.
Both guys instantly became untradeable.
They do not seem to want to use any of their $37.7m in cap space this year outside of allocating $15m to $24m to Lauri for an R+E.
