What pick do Lakers need to add in DLo for WCJ trade?

Lakers get WCJ
Lakers need a backup C.
Magic get DLo, pick
WCJ isn't needed with Goga, Mo, JI.
More perimeter scoring creation and pick compensation
What's fair?

I don't see Orlando eagerly dealing their starting center for a guy to compete with Anthony for backup PG minutes.
Isaac can also play PF (and obviously has reliability issues). Goga and Wagner are depth guys. I think it would take a clear 'overpay' for Orlando to take the roster fit (and quality) downgrade.

Orlando has no need for DLo, and want to retain WCJ. Unless they're sending an absurd amount of picks, it's simply not happening.

I think Dlo is substantially better than Cole Anthony and the Magic need shooting. That said, losing WCJ is going to hurt because while Mo is a good backup, he's going to get into real foul trouble as a starter.
I think DLo for Mo or Goga when they're eligible is the move. The Lakers can have AD play minutes at the 5.

Why does Orlando do this?
They play through Wagner/Banchero a lot and have KCP/AB/Suggs/Harris/Anthony already as smaller guys (guards).

I would vote for “More” if that was is your poll.
There are a lot of teams that could use center help this season, and we’re seeing some teams giving out deals above the minimum for lesser players, simply because of position scarcity. It’s also two years of WCJ at $12 and $10.8, and DLo doesn’t have Bird rights, correct? I would say two, top-8 protected 1sts. I think that’s steep for the Lakers, but one unprotected 1st can be so dangerous. I think the fit is better than some ORL fans believe, but (while I haven’t checked) I think WCJ can draw two protected 1sts elsewhere from a team that might start him.

I think a swap and a set of seconds is about fair when it comes to plain value. But I don't see Orlando moving off WCJ for D'Lo without a decent overpay.

Wouldn't matter with DLo having bird rights because his salary is quite high. He'd have early bird at least if not full bird.
Ok WCJ is worth a lot more to you than me. I have him as a nice backup C.

I dont hate this as part of a 3 tea mtrade w/ Nets for Claxton mid season.
Orlando out: WCJ, filler, DEN 2025 1st
Orlando in: Claxton
LAL out: Dlo, 2029 protected 1st
LAL in: WCJ
Brooklyn out: Claxton
Brooklyn in: Dlo, filler, DEN 2025 1st, LAL 2029 protected 1st

Aren't you trading for him to be your starting C?

That's a nice play and realistic too. Nets can take DLo in to the Mikal TPE.
Do you know if Goga can be traded already?

The Orlando backcourt is pretty full with 6 guards on the roster and we seem committed to starting KCP/Suggs. I don't really see the Magic currently having interest in bringing in DLo to come off the bench unless they are moving Cole Anthony and even then I think they'd prefer to give the backup PG role to Anthony Black to continue his development. I think they'd be more likely to look for future draft compensation in a WCJ trade or potentially another backup forward if they're not sure that Tristan Da Silva will be ready to contribute off the bench as a rookie.

Not trying to sell you on Russell. But curious if you think Orlando would make Black's development a priority over winning? I'm not saying don't try and develop Black, but this is a legit good team. That should be better with the addition of KCP and internal growth.

I don't necessarily think they would prioritize his development over winning but I think with internal growth he could be ready to move ahead of Cole Anthony as the primary backup at PG at some point this year. That's the only scenario where I see an opening in our backcourt as I don't see them moving Anthony unless they think Black is ready and in that case I think they'd be looking for more of a third string guard that is there to move into the rotation in case of injury instead of someone like DLo.

Some Laker podcaster/vlogger keeps pushing WCJ as a target but Orlando is trying to win this season. Not sure there is a logical trade fit. DLo would be an upgrade over Cole Anthony but I don't see him being happy as a 20 min a night bench guard in Orlando in a contract season. He definitely wouldn't start over Suggs or KCP. Anthony Black needs minutes too.
