Pels trade CJ McCollum for Clint Capela, Jarred Vanderbilt
Lakers trade Dlo, Jarred Vanderbilt, JHS, 2025 LAC 2nd, 2025 LAL 2nd for CJ McCollum
Atlanta trades Clint Capela for Dlo, JHS, 2 2nds

Pels get size and defense they lost earlier in the offseason, and shed some future salary in the process. Murray/Herb/Ingram/Zion/Capela+ Jose/Hawkins/Murphy/Vando/Missi

Lakers get their third scorer that is badly needed. CJ/Reaves/LeBron/Rui/AD + Vincent/Christie/Knecht/FA/Hayes

Hawks hand the C position to OO and Nance and gain guard depth and a couple of mid-2nds. Trae/Bogdanovic/Zacc/Johnson/Okongwu + Daniels/Dlo/Hunter/Gueye?/Nance

Would swap Vando for Rui and let LAL keep JHS.

Don’t think Atlanta would assign much value to JHS anyways with Trae, DAR, Bogdan, Dyson, and Kobe..

Vet Min players can't be aggregated so this still caps them at the 2nd apron

I don't see C.J. as being a better player than D'lo.

Lakers need to be getting the incentive here. Paying to get a worse contract in lateral move.

CJ is better, but there's definitely a debate to be had as far as whether it's worth the additional salary commitment.

I don't think he is. You can. Probably the same tier of player, so the salaries of each player requires the Lakers to receive incentive.

I think DLo is the beneficiary of being the third option on the Lakers as to where CJ gets a lot more attention from opposing defenses. This is particularly true whenever Zion is injured, which is a lot.

You can think that, but C.J. was also behind Ingram in the pecking order, the Pelicans had a lot more shooting than the Lakers [and thus spacing] while Zion played 70 games last year.

Zion really wasn't injured last year. Try again jbk1234.

Zion missed the first round which made it very easy for the Thunder to defend the Pelicans. Recency bias is impacting evaluation here without allowing for a counter factual comparison where LBJ gets injured and DLo is the primary ball handler against SGA. Also the difference between AD being the post threat playing behind the primary defender, and JV being that guy, is stark.

CJ was great in the regular season for the Pels, when Zion was on the court, shooting 429 from 3 on 8.4 apg. That's elite. He's got the better handle and he's the better floor general.

I am not referring to the post-season as the difference between these players. I am talking about the regular season in my comparison. Both are extremely flawed post-season players.

DLO shown he a 22/7 player as a second option. Stats got worse playing behind lebron. Not like they improved.

Agree with JBK that CJ is better but may not be worth the additional salary.

Disagree that both CJ and DLo are "extremely flawed post-season players."

Both CJ and DLo are defensive negatives in the playoffs, but CJ has proven his offense transfers to the postseason. He has enough handle and shake that he's still a threat to good half-court defenses.

DLo is not even a consistently good regular season player. He's an innings-eater who thrives against bad/tanking teams in the last couple months of the season. His offense in the playoffs falls apart because competent defense stay in front of him.

CJ has had a couple of good playoff runs. DLo consistently gets played off the court -- he's literally never had a positive OBPM, DBPM, or VORP in the playoffs.

EDIT: On the overall trade, I think the OPs proposal is fair value and improves all 3 teams. But if I'm the Lakers, I probably would not do it if it requires sending Rui instead of JHS/Vandy.
