No, not with MPJ this time

Step 1
Denver trade: Tyson, 2 seconds
Toronto trade: Cash

Step 2
Toronto waives/buys out Brown, who will clear waiver at this stage of FA and agrees to sign for minimum with Denver, with whom he won a championship before (Denver will need to get a wink wink deal done with Brown and his agent prior).

Net effect =
Denver get Brown at vet min for 2 seconds and tyson
Toronto eats 21M dead salary and get 2 seconds and a prospect
Brown gets to start/play a big role for a team with prior success and audition to get a big deal in next years FA

won't happen, as it would fall under circumvention of the cap rules. the NBA would surely investigate how you went from willingly picking up his $20M+ option, to waiving him a couple weeks later and eating said $20M+

Phoenix did it with Cameron payne (picking up option then waiving)

Dallas also paid Toronto to buyout Peja before. So i think theres precedent for such a move

Denver is hard capped at the 2nd apron. Making a trade to set up a 2nd move not allowed in the first trade is illegal. It would be invalidated and both teams would likely be punished for negotiating a side deal.

Dallas literally did the same thing for Peja before.

You’re sure Dallas could not legally acquire him?

Stojakovic made 15M while Ajinca whom they sent out in 1st move made 1.5M, back in 2011

Let me be more clear. Was either team hard capped and literally unable to complete a direct transaction for the players involved? The issue isn’t just about money matching, it is a circumvention of a hard cap under a new CBA making legal trades to accomplish an illegal acquisition.

I think theres interest in a trade like this.

It would have to be around MPJ. Denver will end up breaking up MPJ into more players for salary reasons.

A couple of days ago I proposed MPJ for Brown + Olynyk.
