Combining Rumors - Jazz/Dubs/Wolves/NYK/Wiz

Ok its long and fairly complicated cause of the CBA.
I tried to solve all the teams goals based on recent rumors in the market.
Washington was a big add to the trade, with them controlling the Warriors 2030 pick (top 20 protected) which was limiting what picks the Warriors could trade out due to the Stepian Rule.
The word on the street in NY is they still want KAT. I think with the pieces redirected from the Warriors with Randle, might get the T-Wolves to bite. They have an instant savings of $6m a year, with luxury tax implications is more then $20m in cash. And they can get Randle to sign at 80% of what KATs making long term.
Deuce I thought was a good fit for the Warriors if they are losing Podz and can play next to Curry

Knicks trade:
Julius Randle
Mitchell Robinson
Deuce McBride
Precious Achiuwa (sign and trade starting a $7mil, 1st year guaranteed)
Detroit 2025 1st
Washington 2025 1st

Knicks get:
KAT
Walker Kessler

Knicks put everything they have left into a KAT trade forming a 5-out lineup that could rival Boston. Kessler is a good young cheap center for them, who they will have his restricted Free Agency rights to long term.

Walker, KAT, OG, Bridges and Brunson with DDV and Hart off the bench in KAT at the 5 lineups should be a true championship contender.

Wolves trade:
KAT

Wolves get:
Julius Randle
Gary Payton
Moses Moody

Wolves get off Towns $55mil a year deal and bring in Randle who can be signed at 75% of that number. Payton brings them a bit of versatility they lost with Kyle Anderson going to GS. Moody another solid player, who they could decide is worth holding or flip his $5.8m for further tax savings. Right now they looking at shedding over $20m in payroll under this construct. Could double if Moody is flipped to another team.

Jazz trade:
Walker Kessler
Lauri Markennen

Jazz get:
Brandin Podz
Kevon Looney
Mitchell Robinson
Detroit 2025 1st
Warriors 2025 1st
Warriors 2027 1st
Warriors 2028 Swap
Warriors 2029 1st
Warriors 2031 1st

Ainge said he wants the Bridges offer for Lauri and he gets it with 4 1st unprotected 1st and a swap in 28 and a protected pick in 2025. He also gets Podz who seems to be the prize here. To get everything he wants, he adds Kessler to the trade.

Warriors trade:
Moses Moody
Brandin Podz
Gary Payton
Kevon Looney
Warriors 2025 1st
Warriors 2027 1st
Warriors 2028 Swap
Warriors 2029 1st
Warriors 2031 1st

Warriors get:
Lauri Markennen
Deuce McBride
Warriors 2030 1st (top 20 protected)

Ok its definitely hefty for GSW but this team would be ready to compete in the final years of Stephs career and it will sure be fun.
I thought Deuce would be a great fit for GS in the Podz role, and the picks are what's needed to land a player of Lauri's caliber.

A 9 man rotation of Steph, Deuce, Melton, Hield, Wiggins, Kuminga, Anderson, Draymond and Lauri is talented and constructed well enough to compete.

Wizards trade:

Warriors 2030 1st (top 20 protected)

Wizards get:

Precious Achiuwa (sign and trade starting a $7mil, 1st year guaranteed)
Wizards 2025 1st (lotto protected)

Would be an interested deal for Washington with the 2030 GSW top 20 protected pick (which IMO has limited value) getting them their own pick back (or at worst 2 of their seconds). To make the math work, they agree to take Achiuwa in on 7mil a year deal with only the first year guaranteed.

I mean this is absurdly good for the Knicks. Two non-firsts to turn Randle/Robinson into KAT/Kessler just isn't remotely realistic.

No point in going further because the Knicks are sucking so much value out of the deal it can't possibly work for the other teams.

Is it really? Deuce and the protected firsts seems to be in the ballpark for Kessler and the rest is dressing up a KAT/Randle swap.
I don't think you should be so quick to dismiss - deals are fairly complicated under the CBA.
If teams are going to pick a direction, it will come with cost and the teams taking back the most money will be the most compensated.

I mean this values Randle as more or less equal to KAT, which I don't think anyone outside the greater New York metro area would agree with.

That top 10 protected Detroit pick and Top 13 protected Washington pick doing a lot of heavy lifting.

I think most teams would happily pay Towns the additional money over swapping him for Randle and unwanted fluff, no?

You seem to believe Minny should be grateful to downgrade just to save the money. I strongly, strongly disagree. As do you of course because you root for the Knicks and you are proposing taking on the extra money to get the superior player.

Now if you are taking on an unwanted big money player like say LaVine, sure the team taking on that money deserves compensation. But that isn't the case here.

Fair enough. I think its an interesting debate at to whether someone will take back KATs contract and give them someone they could retain long term in his place in the current landscape, but if fundamentally you believe KAT has more value then that hear it.
For NYK to be all in all in it would be also throwing 2030 swap rights on the table, which I am not sure will change your perception.
It's funny that the avg Knick fan is whole heartedly against a KAT/Randle swap.
Besides for where you think the value is for Minny, it works pretty well as a 5 team trade in this CBA (which was pretty complex to construct!)

Not even close for Minnesota in terms of both value and fit.

Seems like this deal works a lot better by cutting out the Wolves and Wiz.

Jazz/Dubs/NYK deal looks fairly solid; I'd redirect the Wiz pick to the Jazz

Just speaking for the Wolves.

1. Randle is a poor fit with Rudy because he is inconsistent from deep. I have also been told by Knicks fans that he would have trouble accepting a support role to Ant. Also there is the matter of quality slide, as Randle is inferior The savings are not enough to justify such a substantial step down. Also, KAT is functioning as our backup C. This makes the Wolves need a new backup C or to use Randle as small ball C, neither appeals to the the Wolves.

2. GP2 wouldn’t crack the rotation. We have better options in the 9-14 range than him.

3. Moses Moody might crack the rotation, but with TSJ just drafted, I doubt it.

Josh Minott, Jaylen Clark, Leonard Miller, Rob Dillingham, and Terrance Shannon are all waiting in the wings behind a solid 1-7. Minott and Clark are both making noise in Summer League, and Miller is an interesting upside player. A player wishing to get ahead and join our rotation needs to be either fairly good in multiple areas, or excellent in one, (think sharpshooter, or lock down defender.) GP2 and Moody are neither of those things.

That is a massive overpay for Lauri. Take out every pick and swap past 2027 for GS as it's debatable.

Na, Knicks are better off with Randle & Mitch. It’s enticing to want a 5 that can shoot 3’s, but I’d prefer to have Randle and his bully ball style and Mitch protecting the rim and giving Embiid problems in the PO. Plus Mitch backing up Mikal & OG is far more enticing defensively.

I would rather Brunson get his Super Max or give the difference in salary to the popcorn vender than have to pay KAT.
NY loses PTS, REB, AST & STL per game after this deal.
They get Brunson and maybe Bridges to take team friendly only to trade for KAT and his $49.2 M deal.

Yea hopefully the news of Mikal being willing to take a team friendly deal, and Jalen already doing so, pushes Julius to do the same. If we want a stretch 5… hopefully Leon gets Bruno Caboclo to sign…

I don't have this as bad for the Wolves, I have them thinking long and hard about this, KAT at 220/4 and Gobert at 40/yr, next to a generational talent that wants to have a real shot at winning isn't ideal.

The Wizards are in very little danger of conveying their 2025 pick to the Knicks. They traded away their best player in Avdija, and Sarr and Coulibaly are long term projects. If they are in any danger at all of winning too much, they'll just trade away Brogdan and/or Kuzma.

It's a sure thing that they will suck for the next 2 seasons. The Wizards have no motivation to sacrifice a future asset in that GSW pick to get back their 2025 pick. They also don't want Achiuwa at all because he would play the exact same role as Sarr.
