Tyus back home

Post#1 » by esvl » Sat Jul 20, 2024 4:22 am

Tyus Jones (S&T) to MEM

for

Konchar and Rose to WAS

Memphis further solidifies its run for the title by bringing back the best pg backup of all NBA.

Washington brings a veteran locker room presense in Rose and a solid rotational versatile wing in Konchar, who would teach young fellas how to play team basketball and make everyone around better.

Memphis could use the full MLE.

Neither Rose nor Konchar have any value whatsoever, and Konchar is negative value on his contract. If I was Washington's GM and you wanted me to eat Konchar's terrible three seasons and $18mil of salary as a way to obtain Jones, you have to pay in picks. At least a 1st rounder with some protections, I would think.

Where did you get this insight? I cannot even imagine that there is a Griz fan that can even in theory to write it about Jitty.

For Washington, and this is not necessarily true of other teams, they do not want bench veterans on good contracts. So, even if Konchar was worth the money he doesn't help them but just takes up time that they need to develop actual talent for 3 years down the road. There is no reason for them to take on this salary; they are better off resigning Tyus and looking to trade him later or letting him walk and selling the cap space.

I don't see any reason for Washington to do this trade. They would be much better off letting Tyus Jones walk for nothing than tying up two roster spots on guys that bring nothing to the future of the team. Easy pass.

I think this would take a few 2nds from Memphis and it would depend on Washington actually wanting Konchar. Konchar is a very good 8/9th man that is versatile and hard working. He has been a positive impact rotation player for several 50 win Memphis teams. He would best be utilized on a star heavy team that is void of depth so maybe a 3rd team could be found here that would make more sense for him.

if this is all Tyus could fetch then at what point is more beneficial for both sides to agree on a decent 2-3 year deal for Tyus to return to Washington and then trade him at the deadline?

Washington probably just lets Tyus walk before making the deal in the OP. A 2nd rounder or two maybe balances this out to neutral

This is bad for the wiz , rose is washed and konchar has below zero value , probably takes 2nds if not a 1st
