ATL Hawks
DeAndre Hunter for D'Angelo Russell
LA Lakers
D'Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis, Cam Reddish & cash for DeAndre Hunter
DET Pistons
$2-4M cap space for Maxwell Lewis, Cam Reddish & cash
-
Hawks cut Hunter loose for the sake of the #1 pick and JJ's growth - turn 3yr x 21m into 1yr x 18m

Lemme guess you think LA should pay 3 unprotected 1sts & Knecht to dump DLo for a bad contract?

Lol, hardly.
Hunter seems like a solid reclamation project for LAL. If he could put it together and stay healthy he might be a great pick up.
Russell to ATL is yikes though.

So, ATL basically dumps an asset to Lakers just because they can give 1st pick more minutes while getting a player who wants the ball in his hands. Especially after getting rid of Murray.
And why they are helping Lakers that way instead of getting some real value back for him?

Lakers should aim higher than Hunter. He doesn't make them better.

Makes no real sense for Atlanta, even though the very general outline of D-Lo for a more long salary forward / wing that isn't a great salary is a reasonable one for LAL. And trading Hunter is reasonable for Atl.

I really like this if Atpanta realizes that they need to (mostly) start over. This cleans their capsheet ans gets rid of a bad contract. Don't mind it for the Lakers, either.

Interesting, but if this happened I think the Hawks go with
Young/DLo
Daniels/Bufkin
Risacher/Bogs
JJ/Nance
Capela/Okongwu

I dont see this for either team
Hunter isn't good, Rui is better than him
And Dlo is still more valuable to us. If we had Hunter last year instead of Dlo, I don't think we make the playoffs
We need a wing who is a very good 3 pt shooter imo, Cam Johnson or Jerami Grant make the most sense
No reason to trade guys or assets for guys who are meh/bad fits and or aren't impact guys

Atlanta doesn’t want Dlo terrible fit and hawks aren’t helping the lakers when they own their 2025 unprotected pick.

Hawks pass.
1. Hawks just gave up on their two PG experiment, they aren't going to jump right into another with a guy that's even worse defensively than Murray.
2. Trae, Russell, Bogi...

that's a real big NO. Where's the size and defense?
3. Hawks have been adding size /length around Trae this offseason, no need to revert.
4. Hawks have ZERO interest in 'helping' LAL get better since they own LAL's 2025 unprotected 1st.

Zero reason for ATL to make such a swap. D Lo sucks in every which way, Hunter while often injured, still plays a highly sought after role

This is a laughable offer for DeAndre Hunter. Atlanta can and will a lot better than this garbage.

Terrible trade for Atlanta. Hunter is admittedly mid but DLo is just plain bad and plays the least premium position.

https://www.spotrac.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/tax/_/year/2025/sort/tax_totalHawks are currently $49.3M below the projected luxury tax next year. HOWEVER, they have 4 expiring contracts not included in that calc in Jalen Johnson, Clint Capela, Larry Nance, Garrison Matthews.
Jalen Johnson probably eats up most of their room below the tax. They'll likely want to keep one of Capela/Nance at least. Spending to keep both Hunter/Johnson after drafting Risacher might be bad allocation of resources.
I could see the value for them in shedding the out years of the contract. I don't think their cap situation is dire enough though that they'd feel the need to do a deal like this now without any added incentive. And I don't think Hunter is good enough to add incentive for LA.

I think Russel is a bad fit in ATL, but I really really don't see how this is one-sided trade value wise like everyone is claiming.

This just doesn't make sense for Atlanta. It needs to be a 3-team deal where Atlanta get's back something or someone other than D'lo.

This seems very wrong.
D'lo is very much a positive impact guy in the regular season, efficient and effective when in the proper role. And he is paid to do that.

This is fine for Atlanta if you assume they want to get out from under the rest of Hunter's deal, and view Dlo as (1) an expiring contract, and (2) a backup PG who can give you a solid 20-25 mpg in the regular season while spending as little time on the floor with Trae as possible.
OO/Capela
JJ/Nance
Bogi/Risacher
Daniels/Bufkin
Trae/Dlo
