best forward available to PHX for Grayson Allen?

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Sat Jul 27, 2024 10:06 pm

in year 1 of a 4/70M contract who makes $15.63M this year, Allen's salary is better used on a forward with size so that the Suns aren't playing three guards at all times.

Just looking at forwards with similar salaries:

- is DFS available for Allen + 2nds? he feels like a great fit for this unit
- Olynyk?
- Brandon Clarke?
- Larry Nance?

I don’t see phx moving Allen at all. Much better than all the players you just mentioned. Now Okogie or little with picks is a different story

Phoenix is defintely moving Allen now that we have Jones if the right deal comes along that’s a better fit. It’s not like he’s young. It’s championship or bust. It’s just dumb having both him and Beal when you have a large hole at the wing . If the Suns could trade Little, he would’ve been gone. Okogie trade is for another need.

Olynyk is a no. Others yes but I’m not sure their teams need Allen. Portis & WCJ are also players I would like to get.

Maybe a tripper for an enforcer? (Allen for Stewart, both starting 4 year deals, Allen owed 10 mil more).

I dislike even looking at Grayson Allen, but I can’t deny that he’d be a great fit here. We’d need to move some other pieces (a guard or two for a big in another deal), but I wouldn’t hate it.

Was just checking the Phoenix roster, thinking Eubanks might still be there. He’s not.

I think Royce O'neale is more likely to be moved at the trade deadline than Grayson Allen. Allen benefited more than anyone else on the Suns roster from the space created by the gravity of Booker, KD, Beal.

Nurkic + an unprotected '31 pick is also very much on the table IMO. By the trade deadline, Nurkic will only have 1 1/2 season left on his contract.

Due to his extension, he won't be trade eligible until one week before the season starts. Will the Suns and their trade partner(s) want to disrupt things so late in the game?

None of those guys are really forwards/wings. They are centers ranging from very undersized to not really a rim defender.

Interesting. I was thinking of trades for Centers. PHX is championship or bust, which means in the playoffs they're going to need Beal, Booker, KD to play 40+ minutes at a high-level every night. Royce O'Neal and Okogie and soak up the rest of the minutes at the 2-4 spots.

The real hole is at Center where Nurk just should not be a expected to play at even a mediocre level for more than 28 minutes a night and Plumlee should not see the floor in the playoffs.

I think Isaiah Stewart is a good option. Other options:

WCJ (If Paolo + Wagner + Goga + JI seriously cut into his minutes)
Robert Williams (if he proves he's healthy)
Steven Adams (if he proves he's healthy and Rockets disappoint)

I still think Walker Kessler for Nassir Little + 2031 1st unprotected is the way to solve the C issue for Phoenix.

Is a post-KD/Beal unprotected 1st an overpay for Kessler? Yes. Do they have better options? No.

Maybe they can talk Utah into top-4 or top-1 protection or something, but I'd do it regardless and I think Ishbia would too.

Kessler/Nurkic
KD/O'Neale
Booker/Okogie
Beal/Allen

Rob Williams would be a nice get for the Suns . Could play Forward and center .

I kinda agree with the Suns have a center probably more so than a forward problem. KD the PF this year more than likely

The problem with Timelord is that because of the apron rules, they would have to give up Nurkic to get him, and if (when) RWIII gets hurt, they're left with Plumlee as the only 5 on the roster.

Allen makes more than Timelord so they could swap him straight-up without Apron issues.

Say Timelord stays healthy for 40 games and looks good:

Suns trade G. Allen, receive Timelord + 2nd
3rd Team trades Swap/Late 1st + Expiring/Bad Money + 2nd
Blazers trade Timelord, receive Swap/Late 1st + Expiring or Bad Money

I like it for the Suns because it allows them to keep the '31 1st for another move.

POR should just keep RW3 and hope he rebuilds his trade value for a real FRP.

Less confident that will happen a year later.

Ah fair I (ironically) forgot about Allen.

The thing that pops into my mind is DFS for Allen should be a straightforward swap, although Allen should maybe head to a third team.

My first thought was Duncan Robinson but the money does not work.
