GSW / UTA / PHI 3-Way Midseason Trade

Based on some other trade rumors.

Warriors:

Out:
Moses Moody
Gary  Payton II
Jonathan Kuminga
‘26 GSW FRP
‘28 GSW FRP

In:
Lauri Markkanen

Reason:
Warriors decide they'd rather upgrade to Markkanen than extend Kuminga. Moody is required for the trade. GP2 is for salary matching.

Jazz:

Out:
Lauri Markkanen

In:
Moses Moody
KJ Martin
Jared McCain
Gary Payton II (Buy-Out)
‘26 GSW FRP
‘28 GSW FRP
‘28 LAC FRP
‘29 LAC FRP (Swap)
‘30 PHI FRP

Reason:
Jazz get a couple prospects in Moody and McCain. GP2 can be bought out. Also, get a look at KJ Martin who can be waived at the end of the season. They prefer the controlled contract of McCain and draft capital over Kuminga. Let's Jazz tank harder for Flagg.

Sixers:

Out:
KJ Martin
Jared McCain
‘28 LAC FRP
‘29 LAC FRP (Swap)
‘30 PHI FRP

In:
Jonathan Kuminga

Reason:
Sixers have draft capital and Kuminga is the best player available and they need a 4. A big part of this might be if they can get Kuminga on a somewhat reasonable (less than max) deal.

Why not? Wouldn't their payroll still be less than Boston and Phoenix?

I can't see anyone giving up that type of package for Kuminga. What am I missing here?

Salaries won't work once Lauri is renegotiated. Also, that package is not getting Golden State Lauri now, don't know why it would later. Utah's position seems to be Podz and picks.

I wasn't expecting Utah to extend Lauri before the trade deadline? Why would they?

Also, Golden State isn't offering Podz nor is it the same package they were offering. They would be getting McCain and few extra draft picks that GSW weren't offering previously.

I agree with the other poster though that I don't think Kuminga is worth this. I'm taking an idea that maybe Philly ends up feeling they can truly contend this year and the lack of a 4 is their weakness. However, Philly would probably just pivot at that point.

Utah's kept cap space open to renegotiate and extend Lauri. Most likely Aug 6 (1st day it's an option and lets him be traded on the deadline). Otherwise Lauri becomes an unrestricted FA next summer and Utah would realistically have to deal him for the best offer - not holding out for the Ainge special.

My money is on 7 Aug at the earliest, but otherwise this.

Ah ok. Thanks for the info. Never mind the trade proposal then. It'll be interesting to see what Utah does with Lauri.

Lauri will R&E on the 7th because he doesn’t want to be traded.

Are you sure he really wants to stay in Utah for the full-season tank after the last two tanks?

Take the picks out for Golden State, and it might have legs. 3 for 1 player swap seems fair.

Every Jazz insider has said Lauri wants to stay. His family enjoys living in Utah, which is no surprise.

I don’t know about paying 70% the value for Lauri to end up with Kuminga… Kuminga isn’t worth all that anyways, but if you’re paying that much for him - you just add the rest to get Lauri and spend like crazy for 3 years.. or only go over the second apron for two years and then dump PG as an expiring if you don’t want to deal with the harsh penalties?

And I don’t think Lauri is worth the OP either. Would be a really nice trade for Utah though.

3 for 1, where one of the players you're flipping isn't very good and another is young but hasn't shown anything, is not a very good barometer.

Even if Podziemski was in the deal, you would owe at least a pick. But here he's not.

If the idea here is "we'll take Lauri if he's cheap, otherwise forget it"... just forget it.

No one is trading for a player who is willing to lower their value sitting on the bench for a tanking team. For the privilege of living in Utah? This will go its course on the 7th when the trade deadline passes. Then some semblance of truth might be disclosed.

Huge overvalue if the argument is true. Based on the Jazz argument in this thread, of wanting to tank in Utah, Coxy's 3 for 1 is the valuation I came up with too.

I disagree, unless he stops playing at the level he is then there is a discussion there which I don’t think is going to happen.

I’m not stating the offer I make is getting Lauri cheap at all, that’s what I think he is worth. Lauri is a nice player, a tall one dimensional shooter, that has 1-year left on his contract where he is then UFA. All of the teams he’s been on, end up lotto bound, or tanking, or are just plain awful. He’s a complimentary player, not a star.

The Warriors might end up regretting trading for him if they are using either Podz or Kuminga in the deal, as they may end up better than Lauri anyway.

I think he can help the Warriors, but MDJ and Joe are playing this right and not overpaying because he won’t be some star player that everyone thinks the haul for him should be. He’s just not that good.
