BI won’t have much of a market until the trade deadline. Injuries may create a demand for a rental with a possibility of more depending on how he plays up till then. At this point the money he wants with the new CBA makes him very difficult to move, much less for value.

This would allow Portland to clear a lot of cap space by the summer of 2026 when they
could allow Simons and Ayton to walk but then again, Portland is not a free agent destination

I'd be shocked if he chose glamor over getting paid.

I really like this, outside the box and probably shouldn't be. Portland rolls the dice on someone who could be part of their long-term core. Worst case they are out some seconds and the opportunity cost of the asset Grant could bring in. But, they will also have cap space sooner in that scenario, which likely has a similar value to what Grant would pull in a trade. For New Orleans, it gives them a manageable way to retain talent (I think).

There is zero reason for Portland to say no.

If Ingram has value, send him to a third team for something Portland wants, like a pick and filler. I don't think he's the right piece for the Blazers.

Looking at the landscape of the league, are we sure a glamor market max offer for Ingram will exist.

I think the better question for Portland is if Ingram signed to an extension is with more in the trade market than Grant on his current deal.

Exactly. One overlooked aspect of the Ingram trade dreams is-- the rebuilding (tanking) teams won't want to trade for him because he will make them better (in theory). Those 10+ more wins he could being could be just enough to keep them out of the top 5 in this loaded Flagg-led draft, but still not good enough to compete with the top of the West.

Blazers, Pistons, Nets, Hornets, Wizards, Bulls, Raptors, Spurs, maybe Jazz-- they won't risk giving up assets for the chance to miss out on Flagg, etc. and to overpay Ingram. Now, mid-season, one of these teams could have a great early start like the Pacers last season. Then want to buy talent and start a winning culture, then trade for Ingram at the deadline to boost their playoff run and long term outlook. I could see the Hornets being that team.

This is just awkward imo.

Grant doesn't have the value to return Ingram as I see Grant as slightly positive to neutral value, but Portland shouldn't pursue Ingram as he's not a needle mover and the actual value this need to add wouldn't make sense.

I would think both teams should pass.

I have Ingram worth more by enough that I think NO passes. But maybe as a three teamer there is a variation that works.

Portland says yes on value alone imo . Can always trade him. Ingram younger than grant. Not like grant a better fit for them long team.
