Brooklyn/Rockets

With the CBA now in full effect two questions regarding Brooklyn and Houston.
1 - Do they hold even greater trade chips with the expiring contracts of Ben Simmons and FVV respectively?
I suspect Houston it would be harder to deal as FVV is still decent, but Ben might just be straight future savings for a team.
2 - What is a trade that you believe could happen that would be considered left field right now, but at the deadline could happen for these expiring contracts and can Brooklyn/Houston extract more assets than previously thought?
** For the purposes of this thread let's say Houston is out of PO contention.

Lots of assumptions here to make regarding Houston.

I don't see those guys as that magically valuable.
Van Vleet could have some as he'd have on-court value in addition providing delayed salary relief for a team that wants to still try this season while clearing contracts - but that would still involve Houston taking large and at best iffy long-term deals back and that could easily cause Houston more problems than it's worth.
Simmons would just be a delayed salary dump for the other team. Teams that are trying will find it hard to have ~$40M in salary that isn't helping on-court. Teams that aren't trying aren't going to give up long-term incentives (such as picks/prospects).

While Brooklyn has fewer 2025 free agent targets now that Spyda and Lauri have extended, I expect them to see through this "open up $90mil in cap space and see what shakes loose" plan.
So, I don't expect the Nets to trade Simmons for longer term salary.

Houston is looking to be a player in free agency next offseason, so I doubt they gum that up with taking on bad money.
If by some small chance they wanted too, they wouldn't need Fred's contract, as he is still very valuable on the court, they could use all the other less impactful expiring they have.
If they are far out of the hunt, and they have no intention of bringing Fred back, he would just be auctioned off as a rental to some contending team for assets and expiring's.
There are really only three super toxic contracts right now (Lavine, Poole and Beal). We already have Phoenix's pick future. If Washington or Chicago is interested in dumping one of those guys for multiple future firsts, then sure, might make sense. Both teams, however, would be dumb to do that.

Thats alot easier said than done considering apron rules and how much fred makes, esp if you only want expirings back

It's basically impossible.

Teams have added salary at a historic rate and basically half of the league is in the tax for the 24/25 season. That's more than double the usual number of tax teams under the old CBA even though the salary cap increased by almost $30 mil. since the 2021-22 season.
Facts simply don't support the common assumption that the new CBA is forcing teams to cut costs.

It's basically impossible.
What? Its not impossible at all.
You would have to be creative, maybe loop in a third team, but impossible, no way.

Who are the contenders?
Minnesota
Dallas
Denver
Oklahoma City
Boston
Philly
New York
Milwaukee
Which of these teams would trade for FVV? Which of these teams can even aggregate salary?

Why does it have to be a contender? Can be anyone in the playoff / playin hunt.
How about Atlanta? Capella + Nance

Because you said "from some contending team"

I will throw a left field trade:
Valid in October
Brooklyn sends Shroeder/Johnson
Brooklyn receives McCollum/29 FRP (Miami)/27 FRP/25 FRP (NOP)
Miami trades Bryant/Butler/29 FRP
Miami receives Schroeder/Ingram
NOP trades Ingram/McCollum/25 FRP/27 FRP
NOP receives Bryant/Johnson/Butler
Brooklyn takes McCollum and his salary with the expectations of moving him (buying him out). Jettisons Johnson for picks.
Miami knowing it is not going to resign Butler at the amount he wants, decides to move him for another scoring SF/PF. Picks up a PG in the process allowing them to move Rozier if a trade comes available. Ingram may be willing to move off the max deal to be on a winning team.
NOP moves Jones to the 2G spot and brings in Playoff Jimmy and a strong outside shooter to come off the bench in Johnson.
Left field enough?

Yes it is. Well done. Although I don't see Miami sending a 1st in a deal that has Butler going out and not receiving a star player or a young stud.

Does Simmons even want to play basketball anymore?
FVV for Harden is interesting.
