[Charania] - Javonte Green to the Pelicans on a 1-year deal

I know not the most exciting signing but we've had an actual transaction occur

I for one am a big Green fan after his time with the Bulls. He was injured most of last season - finally signed with the Bulls towards the end of the year, and small sample size alert, he was great!

He brought his usual energy, defense, hustle, and explosiveness - but combined it with some absolutely ridiculous efficiency.

Again small sample size

But he scored 12 points per game on 68% TS%. Shot 37% on 3's on 3 attempts per game in 25 minutes.

His per36 numbers were 17 points and 10 rebounds (with the aforementioned insane efficiency).

DJJ blew up after spending some time in Chicago, and I feel like Javonte will be the next former Bulls veteran to do so.

I don't love the fit on the Pelicans - but I think Green is going to play himself into earning some minutes and opening some eyes this season.

Good player but unless he grew to 7 foot I don’t see how he solves the Pels’ main issues

I was trying to somehow manifest him to Denver. Gotta keep working on my witchcraft I guess.

Yes signing for the minimum for one year on a team with better players where DJJ played very similar to how he did in Chicago and now is on a 3/year $30m deal.

It's hard to be an impactful role players on a bad team - I was personally routinely calling for DJJ to start in Chicago in place of Patrick Williams, the same things he showed in Dallas he was doing in Chicago.

I was glad he got the opportunity to play on a better team in Dallas, better showcase what he can do, and get paid.

I think Green could have a similar trajectory, though I also feel his path to playing time in New Orleans may be a little more complicated, which is why I would have liked to have seen him sign elsewhere.

If given the opportunity - I think Green, like DJJ will be able to better showcase his value, and potentially sign and nice long-term deal.

Well I guess he will be waiting in the wings to pick up minutes when the Pels make a move for a 5. Whether that's before the season or deadline is anyone's guess.

He will definitely get playing time since Willie loves players like him (defense, hustle) he is somewhat the naji replacement, maybe not as much playing time that naji got.

I like Green as an 8/9/10 guy role player.

But where does he see PT on a NOP team that desperately needs a true Center and has a serious over abundance of guys who play 2/3 small 4?

I can see him battling for minutes with Hawkins/Reeves. I definitely see this signing as a precursor to something else happening.

He sees a contract ?
NOP aren’t exactly the healthiest team so small chance of minutes eventually.
