One last Minivan to Dallas try

Just a little late off-season roster balance trade:

Dwight Powell
Dante Exum

for

Georges Niang

Cavs pick up a 3rd center they currently lack. Another playable PG. And clear some more money under the tax towards a deal with Okoro(this may not be needed but its a little bonus, clearing some more tax room). Cavs also shed payroll for next season with Exum off the books. Helps with the Mobley extension kicking in.

With Dinwiddie in and Hardy still here, Exum is a luxury and Powell is now break in case of emergency with Lively and Gafford better versions of what he brings plus Kleber as the stretch 5. So bring in a shooting forward and pick up a roster spot.

I think Dallas can do better. I just think Exum is a better player than Niang and I like the role he played for Dallas last season.

I think this is illegal? Dallas has <500k under the apron and they are taking in 1.3M more than sending out. This leaves them 800k over the apron with a 14 man roster

If Grimes isn't looking good partway through the season maybe Grimes and Powell?

SOLD!!! LOVE Exum as a backup guard that adds a point-of-difference", almost as much as I love seeing the back of Niang! As JBK said, I'd happily add a 2nd or 2 if needed to push it through!

Exum is better than Niang and cheap so don’t see why the Mavs do this

Eh if Grimes is a disappointment, Dallas will almost certainly need to use any matching salary for a wing of some kind right? Because Dallas needs him to able to replace Josh Green and play half the game.

This was get two guys who are likely out of the rotation and turn them into a bench shooter who might play 10-12 minutes a night. But sounds like it doesn't work anyway so...

Niang was a playoff caliber rotation guy a few years ago as he was just quick enough on his feet to not be a total turnstyle on D - I dont think he is there anymore. IMO he is so foot slow on D that even with his spacing he is just not playable. Would be targeted over and over.

I think DAL would be foolish to use some of their only contract ballast on him - and also think Exum is a better player.

Since its not doable per Godaddy, somewhat moot

But I'm absolutely okay with trading Exum. He's out 50% of the time, sucks 25% of it, and that remaining 25% he's a quality rotation piece. Just not all that valuable
