Cleveland receives: fake 2nd
Detroit receives: Georges Niang and two seconds ('25 and '26 via Cavs)
Why?
Cleveland dumps money to re-sign Okoro.
Detroit absorbs a bad, but not terrible contract and get some assets.

Detroit already has enough frontcourt depth and enough bad defenders, and second-round picks which are almost certain to fall at the end of the round are extremely unlikely to produce an NBA player and therefore have very little value. This is a pass for Detroit.

maybe make one of those two 2nds a pick in like 2031 so it's high variance?

I doubt Detroit would take on the $17 mil left on Niang's contract for 2 late SRP's. They could likely buy 2 late 2nd's alot cheaper than that.

Niang isn't a playoff player but he also isn't totally dead salary, particularly for a young team that needs shooters and a good locker room presence.
... Or at least Cleveland would propose the deal that way.

Pistons already paid for a better player in Tobias for that role. They also resigned Fontecchio who is also better and a little cheaper than Niang.

I'd imagine Snyder wouldn't mind having Niang in the lockerroom in Atlanta.

As in an unprotected 1st, Cleveland's last for the forseeable future? No, thanks!

We have so many other options at forward that are either better or younger that this makes no sense for Detroit. It would essentially be eating a $17 million contract for two second round picks, no thanks
Someone brought up Atlanta and I think that could make a lot of sense. He doesn’t really hurt their books too much and he gives them another shooter. It’d have to be something like Niang and multiple seconds for David Roddy.
Hawks add a vet and some small assets, Cavs save like 6 million this season and 8.5 million next season.

His $8 mil is problematic.
Hawks goal this offseason is adding defense.

So Hawks eat $17 mil for seconds?
Hawks are $1.2 million under the Luxury tax.
Niang makes $8.2 million for the next 2 years. Roddy makes $2.8 million this season.
Hawks aren’t going into the luxury tax for Niang.

I didn’t realize their cap situation, I was thinking Hawks would get a first
I was more just trying to figure out a team where it might make sense

I very obviously did not say an unprotected 1st

For $17M, why wouldn’t the Pistons sign Okoro? Although they should spend their money on good shooting.

Well for one thing, Okoro's not signing for $8.5M per. He's been offered a multi-year deal like that from the Cavs. His QO is $11.8M.

My apologies, I misread due to a combination of tiredness and drinking. S u suggest 1 of the 2nds being a 2nd in 2031 as opposed to something like 2nds over the next 2 years? No problem for me there...

I know. I meant $17M per year, although that is high for him.
Regardless, SRPs are not worth it to do this deal.
