Article mentions Nets gave a high cost for Johnson. So what is your team willing to offer?

I feel like he's not a starter on most teams because of his tweener defense at a position where you want your role players to defend well. I wouldnt pay anything from the Raps for him, but i think the right team would give up a mid to late 1st for him, but dont know if the Nets would accept it.

I think they should, but i also thought nobody would pay a high price for Bridges anymore and the Knicks gave an arm and a leg for him, so what do i know

A future first and Kevin Huerter who probably could be rerouted for multiple second round picks. Gives Sacramento another 3D wing player to go with Fox, Ellis, Keegan, and Carter in the future

Cam is not a first better than Huerter, and after you factor in salary, I have them as even. Unless the D in 3&D stands for Don't talk about it, Cam is not a 3&D player.

I've got him as pretty neutral value, maybe a slight positive. Big contract + injuries just doesn't equal "high cost" in terms of trade value.

I think because of his size he can adequately defend the second wing/ stretch 4 on most teams. Definitely think hes starter worthy although his ceiling is third option on a really good team.

I think a decent pick plus an expring or a player of need at a different position would do it. More than anything though he kind of gives a "decent player as part of an overall package" vibe more than as a player by themselves.

This might be sacrilege on the Pels board but if we could get a really good center in exchange for Trey Murphy I'd be interest in throwing a first and some stuff at the Nets for him.

The Nets should absolutely move Cam Johnson this season. It's tank time and his injury concerns would leave me wary of holding out for too good of an offer that may not come.

Cam is approaching 30 and still on a massive deal. There should be plenty of interest and my goal would be 2 firsts, but would likely settle for young okay talent and one 1st.

I think a 1st projected in the 20-30 range and a filler contract.

When is the last time a guy of Cam's talent level, age and contract was traded for 2 1st? Or a rookie contract guy and a 1st? That just seems unrealistic.

IDK - with his meh defense really what seperates Cam from, say, Kennard outside 3 inches of height?

Tell us more about that thought. I think he's lucky to be the third best player on a lottery team. On a really good team? 5th starter, maybe 2nd off the bench. He doesn't defend at a high level, he rebounds at a below average level, his saving grace is just camping the three point line. Can he add value to a team? Absolutely. Is he $65 million over the next three seasons? Very debatable.

Would you honestly give a first for a slight upgrade over Harrison Barnes?

Cam can be a good complimentary defender when you already have the D alongside him. Sacramento certainly doesn't have that, so he wouldn't be, and won't be able to in the future because he plays the 4 and Sabonis is at the 5. The Kings need a Gordon at the 4, whoever that may be.

The idea of Cam Johnson is much much better than the reality of Cam Johnson

Nets would be wise to move him for a lotto first and accelerate the rebuild

This is one of the things that’s so fun about basketball value and comparisons. They are super situation specific. First off I think third option is different than third best player. Like I think you could argue Huerter was the third option on the 22/23 Sacramento team that had a good offense but I’m not sure you’d call him the third best player.

Cam has good size and has demonstrated the ability to play good team defense. He’s never going to be your first defensive stopper but you can completely get away with him as your extra wing or the guy who guards stretch 4s especially if you have a run protector behind him. There just aren’t a lot of guys that check all those boxes. He’s also versatile because he can fit in virtually every system and has a skill set that help both your best player and your roll players without requiring a ton of touches.

I think he’s the perfect “second wing” because if you park your worst defender on him it gives his team extra floor spacing and they won’t be able to help off of him. You also can’t easily put a point guard on him because of how well he can shoot over them, and he shoots threes at a high rate and can move off the ball so he will keep his defender occupied.

I’d imagine the best BKN can get is expiring money, maybe some young expiring talent to look at, and a late first.

Ignoring all of that, could Utah be tempted to attach a first (say Cleveland’s 2025) to John Collins? BKN get an extra pick, 1 year less of salary and a great tank player and Utah get a decently priced forward who would seem to fit with Lauri relatively well.

He is an above average player on an above average contract. I don’t think he is bring back a first in a trade. Maybe a late one. He is in his prime but probably not a lot of upside left.

This is a pretty good stab at his value.
I like that proposed trade for both teams.

The RealGM trade checker says this works but it seems off - but if it does work and OKC is willing to YOLO spending a bit I could see -

Kenrich Williams + Osumane Dieng + bad future FRP for Cam Johnson.

BRK gets a prospect to take a flyer on and a bad FRP.
OKC continues to add shooters and IMO its feasible that Cam could start at PF.

G - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander / Cason Wallace / Nikola Topic
G - Lou Dort / Alex Caruso / Isaiah Joe
F - Jalen Williams / Aaron Wiggins / Cam Johnson
F - Cam Johnson / Chet Holmgren / Dillon Jones
C - Chet Holmgren / Isaiah Hardenstein / Jaylin Williams

Was told by a Nets' fan that the asking price at a minimum was a high-upside lotto pick.

I don't think there's any urgency on the Nets part to move him. I expect this to be a one year hard tank. They will strive to bounce back into play-in/play-off contention in 1 year, but have their '26 pick as insurance in case that fails, and Marks has shown a desire, including in his first rebuild, to have veteran mentors around young players. The Nets are already projected to have tons of cap space with CamJ on the books in '25, so there's no need to get off his money, since they need to pay somebody.

All that said, if the right deal comes along, I'm sure the Nets would jump at it. Given that the Nets already have 4 1sts & 2 2nds, at least 1 2nd (their own) is expected to be very high, I'd imagine moving up the draft board is just as valuable as acquiring more of the draft board. A '25 pick swap at the trade deadline, when there's a bit more clarity in terms of where picks are projected to be, seems viable if the Nets can move one of their picks up from the late 20s to late teens/early 20s.

Would Brooklyn want to additional PFs with Clowney?
FansPro thinks the trade is too short on money from OKC.
I have OKC giving up Dort/Dieng/Williams (Jaylin) and no picks changing hands.
