LAL\POR\BRK

Here is an idea of an oft-rumored POR-LAL deal but including BRK:

POR trades Williams, Grant, Reath & Banton to LAL (Walker could be substituted for Reath or Banton)

LAL trades Vincent & Hachimura to POR along with 31' 1st with lite (1-4?) protections & (2) 2nd round picks (25' from LAC & 27' from LAL) & sends Dlo to BRK

BRK trades DFS to POR with\maybe a 2nd (30' via DAL)

So...
POR ends up with DFS, Vincent & Hachimura (all have 2yrs left) + LAL 31' 1st (lite protections), 25' 2nd via LAC & LAL 27' 2nd + 30' 2nd from DAL via BRK

LAL ends up with Grant, Williams, Reath & Banton (or Walker)

BRK ends up with DlO

Good deal for LAL? They get Grant & Williams and only give up (1)1st which is slightly protected and (2) 2nd's and they save another $200k or so under the 2nd apron. Reath offers some protection vs. Williams and his injury woes (worst case scenario), Banton has a partially guaranteed salary, which if waived before the start of the season could net LAL another $1.9 beneath the 2nd apron, which could be enough to sign a vet FA (Fultz? Gallinari? Crowder?) instead.

Why for BRK? Do they have interest in Dlo or not? Trading DFS for Dlo saves them $$ a year down the road (DFS (2) vs. Dlo (1) year remaining). Is that worth a 2nd? Maybe? Maybe they think DFS is worth more dealt on his own (debatable), there are several other options available (Bogdanovic or Schroeder + Williams?), however looking at their roster, there sure are a lot of players with 1yr left. What is their goal next offseason? Erasing that extra year of DFS could net them even more potential $$ next offseason ($85mil under the cap potentially?), which BTW few teams will have $$ to spend.

Who is potentially available in 2025 that BRK could have interest in?
Ingram, Sengun, Randle, Turner, Kuminga, Jalen Johnson, Jalen Green, Naz Reid, Murphy, Suggs, Jalen Smith

POR nets a lightly protected LAL 1st in 31', (3) 2nd's all in years they have no\questionable picks, DFS\Hachimura could be spun off next offseason for additional value (probably not a lot, but something). Losing Grant\Williams clears up some room for younger players and keeps POR on the path of securing a top 5 pick in 2025.

Thoughts?

So who provides playmaking for the Lakers after this trade?

LeBron, Reaves, Banton? If so then Banton is a major piece in the rotation of a contender, is he ready for the role?

Spoiler:
If you say Lakers aren't a contender, then why do they make the trade?

IF Brooklyn would do DFS for Russell (I don't think they would and I definitely don't think they pay to) then LA should simply do that. DFS is the 3&D wing they need and while he's a PF on offense, he can still defend some guards so you could start him since Lebron plays PG on offense.

Williams in theory helps the Lakers, but with AD's health I don't like another injury guy. Grant probably is just too expensive and guts their depth. And doesn't address their major needs though obviously a nice talent addition.

Still I'd cut the Portland part out here and have LA send some 2nds to Brooklyn.

Dfs hasn’t shot the three well since he left Dallas. He is a defensive player instead of 3 and d. I would hope lakers wouldn’t trade their best shooter and secondary play maker. Swap Vincent, rui, or vandy for DFS imo.

Hypothetically DFS should shoot better next to lebron but the pressure of playing in LA has turned good shooters into average time and time again.

yeah I assume that him getting open corner 3's he'd go right back to shooting them at 40%+. Remember he also had a wrist injury that effected those percentages beyond just being on a team with no offensive engine.

But yeah maybe LA does need Russell's offense more to get them into the playoffs. I think even you'd agree in the playoffs DFS becomes the superior option. But doesn't matter if you can't get there....

I think if anything happens w/ LAL it would be a simple 2 team deal - Grant + filler (Reath or Walker most likely) for Rui + Vincent + future FRP (PDX will want Top-4 - LAL will want LP - likely ends up Top-8 or Top-10).

Yeah I agree with this.

This is the deal that needed to be done before Tyus was signed up for Suns
