Do we know if this is a gtd deal? Fine either way. He's definitely an NBA roster player. Unlikely to play much with the Knicks wing depth, but he's playable in the regular season for sure.

The roster is extremely unbalanced.

i expect him to be salary ballast in a midseason trade (likely for a C)

I can't imagine what it would take for them to breakup the Nova guys immediately after pairing them together and some of the sacrifices that have been made.

He wasn't worth the MLE (what the Suns signed him back then) but vet min is a low price for his skill, but then again, Beasley went for 6, GTJ vet min...

I'm assuming the Knicks organization is interested in competing for a title more than they are Villanova class reunions and that if a deal came up they believed made them better they would trade one of the guys they have upgraded. And for the record I don't take seriously the notion that all those Nova guys are going to retire as Knicks.

issue with that take is the other more exp players are legit playoff rotation caliber players while shamet isnt. obviously it will depend on the player available on the market and how much salary is needed to match but i expect them to trade shamet/achiuwa/fillers before the nova guys.

I dont htink the nova guys will retire as knicks but i think they keep them until they can lock down bridges to an extension (hopefully at a team friendly price)

I doubt the Knicks set out with the plan to join all the Nova guys together for life but a lot happened to get to this point. The pursuit of Brunson who has many personal ties to the organization. Trading for Hart. Hart opting into the last year of his deal at a below market rate which allowed the them to sign DDV I believe with the bi-annual exception when he also probably could have gotten a bigger deal after a great shooting season for the Warriors. The front office trading a ton of assets to acquire Mikal from the crosstown rival. Then on top of that Brunson extended early leaving some money on the table and there are reports Mikal may do the same.

Obviously anyone is available for the right price but I feel the front office will exhaust every option before they would think of trading one of the Nova guys in the near future.

Is Deuce really going to be SG3? I thought he played well last season and should be PG2 - works w/ both Mikal and Donte being above average playmakers from the SG spots. I also think KBP is more of a PF.

I think that big man depth is a pretty glaring issue. I think PDX and NYK could be a trade match w/ NYK not having much salary ballast to make a move and Duop Reath being a vet min guy with rotation level play at C.

Something like a filler of NYK choosing and 1-2 SRP for Reath.

I'm taken seriously here. People know I'm not just here for jokes or memes. The only people who say they don't take me serious are fans of a team that I am saying something they don't like about. You have done this with me multiple times in the past. I know you don't take well to opinions on the Knicks from me that aren't the same as yours. I understand the importance of the Nova connections as well as anyone and how its been a part of their success. In no way am I suggesting they look to blow that up or be dismissive of it. I'm sure its part of why Brunson signed for what he did for instance.

What I am saying is I disagree strongly that they wouldn't consider trading one of them if a deal made sense. And looking at the contracts they have to move, unless its Randle, Hart or DDV are the natural pieces. They make more than the min and they are good useful players another team would want.

That's it. I fully agree that if they could keep them all they would like to keep them all. They are good players with great chemistry. I just think with Robinson's health and their other center options being limited that they may find they need to address that position in a meaningful way and I personally believe they would consider dealing a Nova guy.

I also accept I am in the minority on that. And that's cool. It's okay to be in the minority. Doesn't make me not serious. And everyone else who disagrees with me understands I'm quite serious. Maybe I'm stupid but I'm serious.

Just out of curiosity is there a deal that you could see being on the table that the Knicks would be willing to move DDV or Hart for this year?

I split the roster into positions considering the best players" positions on the paper.

In the current Knicks roster, KBP is PF. Precious will be the Center although his lack of size.

Deuce can be a PG although he barely makes plays (Hart is the acting playmaker when Brunson does not play). I can see us playing Cam as the reserve PG and Hart as a PF. However, playing 2 short wings (Donte and Deuce) can be tricky.

I don't think Knicks are after a backup Center. They want another starting Center because Mitch's health is not reliable. But due apron's restrictions this center can not have a high salary.

We can get Kessler now (although I can not see us having the assets to get him).

But the most probable scenario is that we try to land a player after December 15th. Adams, Timelord, Stewart, JV, Goga, Holmes, Reed would be the options.

Yeah its so hard to know what centers will be available who are worth moving for. Obviously guys like Capela, JV, Robert Williams, Vuc, Carter Jr, Poeltl, Kessler are all some level of available and could be salary matched and wouldn't cost assets New York no longer has. But none of those guys really feel worth disrupting the chemistry over, right?

But there is always some difference maker who becomes available and with the Knicks looking so strong but a center away, its not unlikely that a center would tell his agent, get me to New York, which certainly helps.

But is that Brook Lopez? Jaret Allen? Claxton? a Minnesota center? IDK.

I just know if a center was made available that I thought would be my missing piece, I'd trade my 7th man for him even if its one of those two guys. I could be wrong. But I have to think the Knicks wouldn't make those guys completely off-limits.

But I get why Spree feels how he does as a fan. I love that team and I have zero loyalties to the Knicks. But they are so fun to watch. I'd want the team to win with those guys. I'm sad Dallas made the finals and Dorian wasn't still part of it. Or Brunson for sure. But I also understand even beloved guys get dealt is all.

Taken seriously=deserves attention. However, I don’t doubt you’re (unfortunately) “serious” in your belief. Yeah, it’s no secret I think you often times have poor or misinformed takes regarding the Knicks (like this one). You have made some good points about them in the past tho. But hey, if you didn’t concern yourself with my opinion, you wouldn’t have responded with 5 paragraphs

Multiple things can be true at the same time. The Knicks would prefer not to trade any over the Nova guys right now. But the Knicks also have major question marks in the front court and limited ways to take on salary or add value in a trade.

I think the most recent signings of Cam Payne and Shamet show that Duce McBride is being dangled for big man help. But if they can’t do that and the front court is a real issue, there might be no choice but to trade Hart or DDV and have McBride/Shamet play 15-20 MPG.
