Coby White for a big: two ideas w/ CHA and Utah

Post#1 » by drosestruts » Mon Sep 16, 2024 11:11 pm

Two different trade idea centered around Coby White with the goal of getting the Bulls a young center.

Idea 1 w/ Charlotte:

Chicago in: Mark Williams and Grant Williams

Charlotte in: Coby White and Chris Duarte

Bulls add the young, talented, but oft-injured Mark Williams. It's a risk taking on a guy who's only played 60 games in his first two years in the league, but with an abundance of guards the Bulls roll the dice. They also take back Grant Williams who while not on a bad contract, is on Charlotte's potentially worst tradeable deal (kudos to them for having no glaring bad contracts).

Charlotte adds the runner up MIP in Coby White who I think fits nicely lineup wise and age-wise with core guys like LaMelo, Miller, and Salaun by providing shooting, scoring, and secondary playmaking. Duarte is here for salary reasons and is an expiring contract.

Is this just Charlotte plugging one hole (shooting guard) to create another (center)? In a way sure, but Coby is far more reliable than Williams so far in their careers.

Idea 2 w/ Utah

Chicago in: Walker Kessler and Jordan Clarkson

Utah in: Coby White and Chris Duarte

Similar goal here for the Bulls in adding a young big. Kessler seemed like a steal in year one who then saw a dropoff in year 2, lose his starting spot, and then saw Utah draft a center (Filipowski) and sign on in free agency (Eubanks). With the Jazz re-upping Lauri I'm sure they'd like to make improvements and fill positions of need. Coby could be the lead guard I think they're clearly missing and provide Bulls fans with something to constantly complain about if he and Lauri look good together. Duarte again is here as an expiring salary.

With a glut of guards do the Bulls need Clarkson? no. But it makes the deal work financially, they can look to reroute him if they want later.

For the record I really like Coby White - I just think the Bulls have a lot of guards (especially if all the guards are healthy), and that amongst their guards Coby likely has the best trade value and you've got to give value to get value.

lol no thanks

if the Hornets are willing to trade Mark for anything "reasonable", it would mean his back is totally busted and other teams should simply stay away

I think you should be able to get Kessler & Clarkson for White. Might have to involve a third team, but that should be very doable.

Call me crazy if you want, but I think White has more value than both deals. At least a first should be added and Utah may be open to it but Charlotte shouldn’t be.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I agree that White has more value than the Utah deal, but I also don't see his fit on our team at all. Needs a third team to send something Utah wants while returning White.

I like Coby White but the Jazz also have too many guards on their roster. I can't see Ainge giving up Kessler + pick for White when they already need to find minutes for Keyonte, Sexton, C. Williams, Sensabaugh, Collier, etc. Wouldn't be surprised if they do end up trading Kessler but it would more likely be for a decent FRP.

Clarkson can likely be had for free if any team is interested.

Maybe a 3 way trade where White goes to a 3rd team could work. Unfortunately most teams need wings and bigs.

An alternative I would do (not sure about the Jazz) would be Kessler + Clarkson for Dosunmu + Duarte. As much as we don't really need more guards, the one kind of guard we don't have is a 2-way player. Dosunmu is that, and I think he's a nice fit next to whoever emerges as the long-term starter (and has a chance to supplant some guys, himself).

Nah you’re not crazy at all. OP is undervaluing Coby hard.

The solution would be easy: get rid of anyone else. Coby White is better than them all. And it's not close.

If all the Bulls want for Coby White is a mediocre young center, I'd be first in line for the Spurs giving them the assets that could get them one, which Spurs have plenty of. Coby White on the Spurs would be great, and could offer the Bulls a better deal than these. No brainer.

I really liked CWhite to the Spurs at the draft, for #8 and the Chi pick back (Chi could have sent Port pick to SA).
White would have been perfect there-to go with the other young studs around Wemby

I also liked Orl-before the KCP signing. Add scoring next to Suggs, and CWhite's defense is average.

Now, I think Char makes sense (White from NC helps-he was a HS legend there). But, they need to keep Williams and hope he works out
White for future picks sounds good

Duarte is third string at best right now, if Lonzo Ball can play even 12 minutes a game Duarte is a towel waver. So he's only there for money. I'm not big on trading Coby White, he can be a bigger piece for the future if they accomplish the real goal of trading Lavine.

The CHA deal flips the Bulls roster glut from guard to forward. That makes a Lavine trade more difficult as they can't really afford to take back any front court players in the deal. The (UT deal) Craig at the backup 4 THT and Lonzo not many minutes

Giddey Dosunmu Carter
Lavine (Clarkson) THT Ball
Vucevic M Williams (Kessler)
Smith G Williams Terry
Patrick Williams Craig Phillips Buzelis

That's fine for the Bulls, no big step up at any position but depth for sure
