Wow.

I really hope Embiid stays healthy. That’s the number one key to this trio.

The biggest upside will come from Maxey’s growth. If he can become a consistent 24+ppg threat, watch out.

Paul George was likely load managing in LA because of Kawhi.

They had to do it, but man I’d be scared of that much money that far out on a player that injury prone.

I mean, this is really all the analysis you need for this thread.

Obviously there is injury risk but when you have the opportunity to lock up a superstar through their prime and you've got a title window open, you have to do it.

I've posted a lot of of my opinion on Joel's trade value, which is he may already not be worth a max given his playoff/olympic play and how fast he could tail. But he's made the Sixers what they are, and who knows what they would be without him.

They were already all in when they gave PG so much more than he was worth. There was no way an Embiid extension wasn’t coming.

There’s a lot riding on Embiid’s health here. But there always has been.

This is going to end up being a terrible contract but they had to do it

Really?

I think the contract is fine. He's a player that deserves it and is well worth it.

Well, up to this off season what have they been exactly? The answer is just another team in the east that gets a lot of publicity because of Embiid(plus Harden to some degree) but have flamed out over and over again. Now they've returned to superteam mode and are probably legit contenders but I gotta see some real results before I would give Embiid credit for building something real in Philly. At least a finals appearance or two. I mean that's what Jimmy has done in Miami.

these massive contracts are a reflection of how much the NBA is earning.

They need to make things cheaper for consumers, this **** is getting out of control.
I know America is built on capitalism, but this is an example of the rich getting richer, when they could use some of that profit to make things cheaper for their fans.

Yeah he deserves it right now but he has been incredibly injury prone throughout his career. That only gets worse with age. Mid 30s Embiid will be a shell of himself. I don't see anyway this isn't a bad contract

They have no choice but to do this but f*** me there's such a high likelihood that this ends badly for Philly given his inability to stay healthy and in shape.

They need to be surrounded by gritty, scrappy, selfless guys who are good at defense and rebounding. Maybe George Lynch and Tyrone Hill have kids by now

The reason sixers haven't been contending is because:
- Overpaid Tobias and Butler left for nothing
- Brown and Rivers haven't been good coaches
- Simmons devolved to nothing through Harden in the end

They had real promise but had a couple big losses in personnel

If they are a second round team in the past with him, would they effectively be a bottom 5 team led by Maxey? Pretty big disparity, enough to forgive the huge risks possibly

2023-2024 - 31-8 with him and 16-27 without, pretty integral

Of course he's integral, but that doesn't really dispute anything I said in my comment. They also won without him in the playoffs.

when I say he's made the Sixers what they are, we are talking relative to the contract, not to the all time great teams.

If he's out here being the difference between a solid playoff team and a garbage team, the revenue generated, the interest in the organization, how many jobs he is saving etc., is worth the risk of his continued (yes, continued if we are looking at playoffs/olympics) atrophy if it would offend him to the point of leaving in FA in a couple years, probably
