Probably converting an e10 or two-way, no?

You sure? I thought they were below the tax before trading McD.
He was useable salary in a trade. To pay to cut him means there’s definitely something else coming or tax issues. This isn’t how to open up a spot.

$1m below the tax but $4.9m below the 1st apron which I think was the intent. Maintaining a bit more flexibility for trades since the last two roster spots can be filled with vet minimums and still be below the apron.

I don’t understand this. The Kings going forward are a tax team. Why would they start the clock on the repeater tax this year for two end of bench guys?

Short of dumping Huerter for cap space or splitting his deal into smaller contracts, it's unavoidable that we will be in the tax this year. But by staying below the 1st apron we maintain the flexibility in taking back more salary than we send out in future trades this season or at the deadline. The minimum roster size is 14 too so in this scenario we likely would be keeping that 15th spot open any way.

I'm not sure your numbers are correct.
$150m for Fox, Monk, Huerter, DeMar, Sabonis, Murray, Lyles
$15m for Ellis, Jones, Carter, Len, McLaughlin, Orlando
That's $165m for 13 players. Tax line is $171m and 1st apron is $178m.

This makes more sense.
It also means they were below the tax before the trade, which is what I thought.
So why use draft capital to make this move? Something comes next.

Why not include Spurs in a 3-team trade for that next move?
You'd only do this if you wanted to make this move regardless of follow up trade success.
So maybe Kings make a trade or they pick up a couple of free agents: Fultz, DSJ, McDermott, Crowder, Covington, Biyombo, McGee
