Kawhi Trade

I’ve seen plenty of the clippers fan base are about done with the Kawhi experiment, and would like to move on. Is there a trade that could be made that satisfies both teams?
Would, for example, the Clippers and Cavs entertain a Kawhi for Garland/Niang trade? Clippers get an excellent young guard for the future, Cavs in win now mode and better able to load manage Kawhi with Mitchell carrying the load.
Maybe a reunion with the Raptors, who give up RJ Barret and Bruce Brown - Kawhi, Scottie and IQ would be an interesting trio.
Any potential moves that the clippers and a trading team would accept?

Kawhi is a huge risk, not many teams would take on such contract. Maybe the Lakers (expiring filler), Bucks (Middleton?), Nuggets (MPJ)...teams that don't need him in the regular season and where the remote possibility of him playing a few games in the playoffs would make a big impact. I don't see mucb of a market, and Clippers should just try to move his contract for whatever, honestly he's a negative contract. Really can't believe the Clippers stupidity in extending him after everything they went through, some people never learn I guess.

I think you'd have to have a perfect scenario for a Kawhi trade. Contender has a large expiring contract that they are willing to let go, while also willing to take a chance on Kawhi playing when it matters. I do not see how LAC gets any value beyond expirings back.

I like the idea around Garland with the Cavs, but such a big risk with the availability and contract. Idk

Ben Simmons for Kawhi. Everyone’s a winner!

Cavs seem like the best option but as a clip fan i’ll take expiring and a late pick to get this over with

Hot take - Kawhi is negative value. People are acting like all you have to do is load manage him through the regular season and then you get prime Kawhi for a long playoff run. The chances of that are roughly 0%. If you want to win a championship, the playoffs are going to be LOOOOOONG. He has lasted 2 playoff games the last 2 seasons before breaking down, even with all the load management. If he was making $20 million, maybe a contender would take the chance and just hope they got a couple decent games out of him each round. Who can do that for $49 million though?

Kawhi has negative value at this point. The Clippers will play him sparingly until the wheels fall off [again] this season.
No team is trading a player who can positively impact winning on a playoff team for him.

No chance. The Clippers will be lucky to get expiring contracts for him.

OKC wants to enter the conversation. With 5 potential FRPs next year, they will need to move some players or get devalued return for the picks.
Dec 15 trade:
OKC trades Jay Williams, Dieng, Wiggins, K. Williams and Dort
Clippers trade Leonard.
OKC needs the space. Khawi can add leadership. OKC has enough in reserve for scoring and defense with SGA, Jal Williams, Holmgren, Joe, Caruso, Wallace, etc. OKC can still go out and pick up some veteran bigger players.

His contract is a killer to most teams. Only a team on their own last legs should be interested...like the Bucks, GSW, Lakers.

With the drama surrounding the Ingram situation in New Orlean, I might work something around an Ingram for Kawhi deal to settle the team around Zion. Risky for both teams for all the obvious reasons of course.
To make salaries work it would probably have to be based around Kawhi and Powell for Ingram and CJ then figuring out if any young players or draft choices need to be included.

I wouldnt say lucky. I think there are enough 'title or bust' teams that some would still give up small value for him in the very off chance you get 7-8 weeks of health from him in the playoffs

Golden State is one of the few teams that might have interest.
They could get a 2nd 'star' without giving up post-Curry 1st round picks.
The challenge is getting the salaries to work (GS is hard-capped at the 1st apron for this season) without creating roster spot or rotation hole issues.
I'm not sure the Wiggins/Payton/Looney package is enough outgoing salary to make it work, as GS would have to add 2 new players in addition to Kawhi.

This is a big deal over nothing. Kawhi has been sighted at training camp and shows no limp, and no signs of his injury regressing. He is just tired of the media asking when he will be back on the court, so the answer is indefinite (so stop asking).
The teams policy with Kawhi is that he only plays when 100% healthy, not 99% healthy. Once he is back on the court, we all get to see what he does (MVP contender) and the endless negativity dies down. The Clips are so deep right now that they can weather Kawhi being out for a month or two. In fact, it might be better for this new team to gel without Kawhi for a bit, either way.
Zero chance he is traded for a garbage player, literally zero chance.

"No limp at training camp" > 6 year track record of some of the worst availability by a "star"
Yeah, right
Cope.

They’re really not that deep without a star to pull it all together. They’ll be out of the running by the time Kawhi gets back, I fear. He could have been an all time great, injuries have ruined that - at this point clips would be far better off getting anything they can for him

Yeah in theory I think GS would be willing to take a big swing on a guy like Kawhi, but the $ numbers are impossible to make work without doing a 5-for-1 type deal

We all know about Kawhi's injury - it has been public since the Olympics. He is healing and being treated with kid gloves. The reason why its not important right now is because the Clips are no longer contenders. They have a new squad and that squad is working on a whole new style of play, that focuses on defense and hustle. Kawhi will be back when he is back and by then, if the Clips can figure it out, no team will want to face them in the playoffs.
I get that Kawhi has been injured a lot, but when you look at the "track record", you should really look at which team has had the most playoff appearances in the last decade - I will give you a hint, its the Clippers with eight.
