MIN-MEM straight swap

Post#1 » by Klomp » Fri Oct 18, 2024 9:27 pm

Nickeil Alexander-Walker for Santi Aldama

This might help balance out the rosters.

Nickeil is likely being squeezed out in Minnesota, with the addition of DiVincenzo. And between Memphis drafting Edey and others getting healthy, I think Aldama will see his role reduced significantly as well.

Memphis simply need Santi more. We are thin at the 4/5, but have a ton of options at the 2/3. Nickeil would be squeezed out here too.

As well as Smart, VWill, LaRavia, GG Jackson, Kennard and even our 2nd rounder Wells looks like a player. We don't need just another wing body. Even if Santi's minutes end up reduced, he will still get more play time than Nickeil would and be valuable insurance for injuries.

Nickeil is a rotation worthy wing that some team with depth issues should trade for if Minny wants to trade him.

Aldama is fourth behind Jaren, Clarke and Edey, plus a number of forwards like GG and Williams and the like that could see time at the 4. I guess I didn't interpret that as lacking depth.

Aldama will be 3th or 4th in playing time among our 4/5s, he has a chance to surpass Clarke this year with good play. Williams is a 2/3, he will not play any PF minutes, he is 6-4. GG is a 3/4, but likely to get most of his minutes at the 3 for a few years until he grows into his body more.

This is how I see our minutes breakdown of the start to the season.
Ja (33) Smart (11) SPJ (4)
Bane (33) Smart (6) Kennard (9)
Smart (10) VWill (25) Kennard (9) LaRavia (4)
JJJ (18) Aldama (20) Clarke (8) LaRavia (2)
Edey (24) JJJ (10) Clarke (14)

And when GG is back it is going to get even more crowded at the 3/4. Plus we have Konchar whom can soak minutes in case of an injury at the 2/3 and LaRavia has been looking like he needs more minutes too at the 3/4. We just don't have much if any need for Nickeil. We lack size and length at the 4/5 and If Aldama's shot is failing gives us a lot of possibilities with pairings at the 4/5.

Honestly, Grizzlies depth is great. What they need more than anything is for their starters to remain healthy and away from guns, that's it.
