With the agreement between NOP and Murphy, does H. Jones feel slighted?

Trey and Herb are like best friends. If anything he's happy and excited that Trey got paid. Herb already got his extension last year so idk why he would feel slighted

Why? Do you think every single player in NBA History is slighted when another player makes a penny in the league?

What a garbage thread.

Congrats to Griffin. Might have saved his job. Otoh, Ingram looks ridiculous asking for almost twice as much as the player he got bench for in the playoffs.

Great deal. Now get rid of Ingram and let the man shine.

It does happen. Wall got bent out of shape when Beal started to get paid more on the Wizards. Chris Webber got upset at Juwan Howard making his (admittedly ridiculous) bag.

Right, it happens...<1% of the time.

OP should make this thread for every single player who signed a contract, right?

I'd imagine an Ingram trade by deadline and no later right? This signals 100% they aren't going to pay Ingram and I doubt they want to let him walk for free.

It feels like a lot but this kid can ball. When Ingram is traded he's going to average 20 easily.

This is a good deal with a chance to turn into a GREAT deal for NO if Murphy gets to be a full-time starter.

Definitely a bad day to be Brandon Ingram.

Herb is quite possibly the most down to earth, humble guy in the entire league. He already has more money than he will ever spend in his life. He would never count Trey's money.

He doesn't go on extravagant vacations, wear designer clothes, or drive flashy cars. Besides basketball, he fishes in a beat up old aluminum one seater with a trolling motor, hangs out with family, and plays video games. He is still extremely happy and grateful to be making $54M.

On his gameday fits:
“Save that money. That’s how I think,” Jones recently told Andscape. “As soon as we get to the locker room, we change our clothes, and [I] put on our basketball stuff anyway. I just try to walk in super comfortable. I try to save, man. I’m not worried about what somebody would say about my appearance if my family is doing good or better than what they were.”

“I think long-term for my kids. If I have to wear Pelicans gear or whatever team gear for the team I’m on for the rest of my career, then my kids or kids’ kids can go to school for free just based on what I earned in the NBA. Then I’m good. I’m cool.”

On his 2018 Dodge Charger:
“I’m not going to change it until it breaks down. I’m going to keep using it until it breaks or stops working on me. Then, I will get another one. As long as it gets me to the gym, I’m cool,” Jones explained to the outlet.

That's a lot of money for a 4th or 5th starter, but he was going to get paid on the open market anyway. Every team wants 2 way wing players and there aren't enough to go around.

They have painted themselves into a corner with ingram now though.

Herb signed for the max NOP was able to offer since he was SRP and signed the contract after 2 years, regardless of the fact he's really not the kind of guy to feel slighted by this from everything we hear about.
I though TMIII is a bit overrated, not as good of a defender as his tools would suggest and injury prone, good contract though, they didn't go overboard.

Legit 3&D wings that can guard multiple positions and hit a good % from deep at volume will always get paid; if anything, I think there's a good chance NO gets a deal here if Murphy can stay healthy.

But yeah the writing is on the wall for BI here. He's the clear odd man out unless he takes a pretty steep discount from what he thinks he deserves.

Why are neutral defenders like Murphy considered 3+D?

This is where I am at, I don't think the deal is horrible but I don't like the role he plays around the current pieces.

Ideally Murphy is a MPJ type of player where he plays off two really good offensive players, but I like it lot less when he is the 4th option behind Zion, Murray and McCollum. That is assuming Ingram is gone sooner than later. Good chance he is 5th in shot attempts for Pelicans this year.

Neutral 3 pt shooters like dillon brooks or jaden mcdaniels get that label too..

One year removed from shooting .398%. Not a guy I would lump in with Brooks to express your point.

career avg 35.4% with only 1 year solidly above average so i have him as neutral 3pt shooter (for now)

While the 3&D label is typically reserved for defensive oriented players that can hit open 3's from the corner at an average rate, there is a spectrum.

Trey is a competent wing defender and a high level perimeter shooter. There are very few shooters of his caliber particularly with the deep shooting that you do not have to hide on defense.

Yeah but at least they can shoot the 3 point shot to a respectable level where defenses respect them.

A bit different than Murphys defense.
