Bobby Portis Auction

Post#1 » by RiotPunch » Sun Nov 3, 2024 9:16 am

Who is the highest bidder? Portis is a strong, scoring big man who gets rebounds at a solid clip. He has a $13.5M player option after this season.

-Bucks looking for assets and/or more well-fitting rotation player(s) with defensive versatility.
-Bucks are in the 2nd Apron and cannot aggregate salaries for higher-paid players.
-Cap relief to get under the 2nd Apron considered an asset.

Genuinely just trying to gauge his current trade value, not that I trust more than 15% of you on this board. Have at it!

Sheesh...
Go trust your team players, especially strong, scoring big man who gets rebounds at a solid clip, should be great help to a supposed contender with no backup bigs and no assets to trade for one.

I think a few teams would want him.

Pelicans?

He has started off pretty poorly this year. I think he has some positive value though for the right fit, right team. I don’t think you’ll get back first round picks though.

Would you really do that from a Nuggets perspective? That’s a strong offer imo.

Yes. In 2031 Nuggets core 4 will be - Jokic 36, AG 36, Murray 34 and MPJ 33, so it is obvious player that will be picked will not play with this iteration of Nuggets team. Their starting 5 is set with CB at guard, and on bench they have Strawther at G and Watson at F as rotation peaces. First round pick from this draft DaRon Holmes II (PF/C) will miss this season, so we don't know will he be able to contribute. This leaves us with backup PG and C/PF spots to fill for future. Boby Portis has been one of the better backup PF/C for quite some time. With him bench is set for few seasons except at PG. If Portis opts out of his contract next season and Nuggets don't resign him, they still get aditional $11mil under 2nd apron to make moves.

For Bucks, Zeke Nnaji has 3 more years on contract, Dario 1. Nnaji is 23 yo, out of rotation. If he doesn't turn into playable peace they still get good pick they can use to improve.

Those players in their late 30s may not be productive or even with the team. It’s a really good pick potentially, for Portis imo. I would think that you have to give up a first, or could at least have stronger protections.

Beggers can not be choosers. :D

Nuggets desparately need good backup PF/C right now to compete. They don't have 2nds to offer, or any other combination of players. Zeke Nnaji is on 4 year $32mil contract out of rotation. As far as protections go, you can't put strong ones because it is 2031 pick, if it doesn't convey Bucks don't get anything.

Pick is good but in 2031 Nuggets will probobly be in - start all over phase, and one potential high pick doesn't guaranty anything.

I doubt it. That's 7 years away. I can't think of any team that has kept its four best players together for that long. It's wildly unlikely. 7 years is an eternity in NBA terms. It's like the 2013 Heat talking about how in 2020 their core 3 of LeBron, Wade, Bosh will bla bla bla. LeBron went and won titles on two other teams in that timeframe. Quick, name a team that has the same top 3 players today as they had in 2017.

I would bet $10,000 on 10:1 odds that on opening day of the 2031-32 season, at least one of those four guys will not be on the Nuggets roster. Only problem is my money would be locked up in a bet for 7 years!

If you bothered to read my sentence till the end you would find out that was exectly what I wanted to say. So if I wasn't clear enough, even if they stay together for 7 years player picked in that draft will not play with them as core 4.

New Orleans feels like a good fit here but needs a 3rd team.

What would be fair value out of NO for Portis, in your view?

He plays tough and can set culture, so I like his fit on the Hornets. They get pushed around and currently are managing injuries to the starting center (Mark Williams) and backup center (Nick Richards).
