Cleveland: Niang, Merrill, Porter, and Thor

Nets: DFS

Nets get a couple young guys that can come in and give them immediate minutes.

Cleveland get a 3D guy that they currently lack.

Is this real or a joke?

That is a negative package that would require the Nets to waive players and eat their contract for Cleveland guys that are not worth doing that for. Plus doubt the Nets want Niang's contract next season too.

DFS likely can fetch expiring and 2nds, that is the type of deal I would try to measure you offer to.

Yeah, we're either giving up LeVert and seconds, or Tyson, Niang, and filler f we want DFS, and honestly, I'm not sure DFS is still worth it. I watched the end of that Knicks v. Nets game and he's just not who he use to be defensively.

DFS is the same defender. He is also the same knock down corner 3 point shooter.

If you watch him this entire season, which I doubt anyone has, you would see it.

The issue is this is not NBA Live 1995 where you can trick the other team into a horrible deal. The Nets will not just give up DFS for scraps as he has value. You have to a) not give them scraps b) include a pick of value and c) only include expiring contracts after this season OR a solid young player who would line up with the majority of their team in age (26 and under).

Yeah, Cleveland DO have the pieces to put some kind of deal together for DFS that would be competitive, but this ain't it...

Why are the Nets doing this?

I'd rather see Cleveland go after a F/C. DFS would be a nice depth piece, but I don't see him really moving the needle in Cleveland.

I think getting DFS will help you win one extra series in the playoffs. I do not know what that is worth. I guess maybe a solid young player who is not a starter and maybe a protected 1st?

First off, if DFS could return a solid young player and a first, of any kind, he'd no longer be in Brooklyn. That's not his market. We can type whatever we want here, but when an actual front office watches the tape, they're not going to see the same guy who was in Dallas on the defensive end.

The Cavs would be looking at him as a rotation piece. He wouldn't start. To the extent that the Cavs could use a rotation upgrade, it should probably be a 4/small ball 5 rather than a 3/small ball 4. They'd have some interest in him, but not at the price point you're talking about.

Brooklyn is fine with holding our vets unless or until offers improve.

Isn't Cleveland winning enough games without ripping off the Nets in a lopsided trade?

I'll be interested to see what DFS gets in a trade. I'm guessing something close to contract matching salary and 3 2nds, similar to Royce O'Neale, especially considering he has a PO next year.

I'd honestly prefer Merill to current DFS. Cavs become worse afte this trade.

So Merill is now a dawg on the defensive end? I have not seen him play much this year. Fill in the people who are not watching Cavs games please.

He has been good defensively, yes. Very surprising.

Able to stay with quicker and stronger players. And he plays hard. Only issue is rebounding.

Cavs biggest advantage is efficiency from all over the floor. I don't think they become better by losing their onlyw wing player other than Strus who can shoot 40% from every spot behind the 3pt line and off screens.

Then you have Niang who is starting to play well and their only backup to an injury prone Dean Wade.

If the Nets end up getting more for him from another team later, this isn't a situation where the Cavs should regret the decision to evaluate and watch the season play out.

I wouldn't trade Levart straight up for DFS. It'd have to be Niang as DFS would replace his production and I'd be fine bringing in a Marcus Morris type to replace Niang for depth purposes. The trade might just be Niang, Tyson, and Thor for DFS and a 2nd.

We need a playable backup 5 more than we need DFS. After what I saw in SL, I'm very reluctant to move Tyson in a trade like this.
