Toumani Camara's trade value

Post#1 » by dcstanley » Sun Nov 17, 2024 6:29 am

Toumani Camara's been playing like one of the NBA's best defenders in this short season: +0.9 D-EPM, 2.7% steal rate, 4.5 stops/100, 2.3 forced TOVs per/100, -9 drtg swing.

He's on a minimum contract but doesn't quite fit Portland's timeline as he turns 25 in less than 6 months. Any chance a contender can get their hands on him? He's not a proven player but he's young with a desirable skillset so curious to see what it would take to nab him from Portland.

Seems like a keeper…I mean 25 is not old right?
I like his potential for sure. He is only under contract for 3 years so not quite worth a first due to the team control and potential a first round pick would bring.
I think a contender could look at him as a rotation player potentially if that team had injuries or depth issues. A good second or two seems realistic. I don’t think you can get a first.

The Celtics traded two future 2nd rounders for Xavier Tillman during the season last year, near the trade deadline. I think he has that kind of value. He has shown skills that can presumably help a team win.

why on earth would Portland trade him? A really cheap 3 and D player who guards 4 positions really well and is a great locker-room guy. I would say he very much fits Portland's timeline.

As is common with under the radar homegrown players, it's likely that Portland values Toumani higher than the rest of the league. I wouldn't expect him to be moved. He's a winning player in terms of his role/impact on the game, and I think Portland intends to keep him around long term.

I'd have no problem paying a non lotto first for Camara for the right team, good wing defender who can hit the 3 at a decent clip is a valuable player and you may get player with a higher ceiling with that pick but more often than not it's a bust you get.

Realistically though, Blazers should not move him unless the offer is too good, say he's included in a package for a star or high level starter (alongside more assets, of course). It's Ayton and Simons that should be moved.

BTW, Camara salvaged the Ayton trade for the Blazers... the throw in that ended up the main piece of the deal.

“He’s almost 25”- umm his birthday is in May.

Why would they ever trade a full time starter on a second round pick rookie contract who can defend 4 positions?

No team would ever give up enough for it to be worth Portland trading him

Yes, the Suns must have been that desperate to move Ayton that they had to add even Camara (who already has shown promising performances in SL).

And the Suns in turn salvaged the Camara trade by drafting Ryan Dunn

BTW, really commendable scouting job by the Suns in the past couple of drafts, taking Camara, Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro. Wish the Spurs would take a page from their book (and the Grizzlies) when drafting in the 2nd round.

Toumani+Sharpe
For
Murray+Carter

I think this works for Portland and Kings

Fox, Sharpe, DeMar, Toumani, Sabonis -- Monk, Ellis, Huerter, Len

Unnecessary shuffling of parts, tries to fix what isn't broken. I think both teams pass.

Kings need more defense at the starting SG and PF spot.

Blazers get the best young player in the deal.

Blazers say they give up the best young prospect in the deal (Sharpe) and Kings say the defense isn't improved overall (when Devin Carter returns).

Just ticked slightly up, had Trae Young in hell on that game deciding possession.

Absolutely zero chance this trade happens if Keegan’s traded it’s gonna be for a guy like Lauri let alone adding Carter.

If Portland wanted a young guy back Keon Ellis, a first, and two seconds could be an offer
