Simple Trade: Smart for Rozier

Post#1 » by _GH0ST_ » Wed Nov 20, 2024 5:01 pm

Both of these players didn't work for their new teams. Now we're trying something different with a simple experiment.

Why for Heat: Smart can cover Herro's defensive weaknesses. He is more adaptable than Rozier.

Why for Grizzlies: With Ja and Bane out, who are constantly injured, he can become a scorer like he was with the Hornets. When they are healthy, he can be a solid 6th man.

I don't see MEM making a deal like this for someone to cover for Ja/Bane. They aren't going anywhere with those guys out. Rozier can help with the scoring load while those guys are out but Smart is the better complimentary skill set player and if they have any real success it's going to be with Ja/Bane healthy and the right complimentary pieces around them.

Yeah, I don't see this for Memphis unless Miami adds compensation, which we shouldn't do.

I don’t see it for Memphis either. Smart has a fair amount more trade value.

Undersized microwave scorers with bad defense are easier to find than DPOY caliber guards. I would say Grizzlies probably pass.

Smart is not a DPOY candidate. He's a player who missed a ton of games recently, is on the wrong side of his peak and is a black hole on offence, it's not like these are in demand either.

Rozier > Smart for me. I rather keep Rozier and see if he can be used as a 6th man, a role much better fitting for his skill set. People always overreact to slumps these guys go through, especially if players are put in a difficult role they aren't suited for.

Not interested in this what so ever and Memphis would have to add something here to make it work, not the Heat.

Yes, I get it, he fits better on your team. Heat also have a Smart at home in Dru Smith, everyone is happy

Bottom line is Rozier has consistantly been a negative impact player while Smart has been a positive impact player. Memphis would much prefer to continue to gamble on Smart since Rozier doesn't really contribute to winning basketball games much even if he rebounds to his career norms.

Both are terrible so far this season. I think Smart is a bad fit with Butler and Bam, while both players seem like reasonable fits in Memphis - but Memphis also has some nice sparkplug scoring in Wells so feels a bit more redundant there.

Is Rozier even better than Pippen Jr?
