Huerter for Johnathan Isaac on January 2nd 2025

Who says no? Huerter making 16.8 M. Isaac making 15m.
Magic are 30th in 3p% and Huerter can absolutely give them an upgrade there. Huerter also puts the ball on the floor and makes plays. Also an improved defender this season even though he’s below average. He’d be joining a top 2 defense and they’d perfectly hide his deficiencies. Just the perfect fit around Paolo and Franz. Can play the 2&3. Isaac can’t be traded till new years which gives Huerter enough time to even out his career 3p% of 38%. He is currently at 31% after going 1-10 last game. But he’s one of the most consistent shooters in the NBA period. His gravity alone will create so much space for the Magic. Teams always guard him out there regardless if he’s struggling or not. He’s just known to shoot it.
For the Kings it’s simple. Kings need a long wing who can play defense and rebound. Isaac is an elite defender. Kings are 16th in defense and this will definitely put them in the top 10. I think it’s a win win for both teams.
Do I need to add value from either side? Thoughts??

Orlando does have a lot of bigs Franz, Paolo, Carter, Bitadze, and Moritz Wagner sure could use a guard that could shoot to come along with draft picks

Issac makes 25 not 15 on Jan 2nd, he makes 15 on July 1st.
Regardless, shooters with no other exceptional skill are dime a dozen, lengthy and mobile forwards who are a terror on defense aren't.

How about this trade instead? Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, Max Christie, 2029 FRP, 2031 FRP. Lakers get Isaac.

Isaac not available for scraps…his new deal is a brilliant hedge vs his injury history…he’s a DPOY threat and can maniacally defend 1-5 from perimeter to rim. He can’t bang with an Embiid type big, but he’s otherwise a serious X factor and suits ORL much more than a one trick, one way guy…ORL needs a scoring playmaker in their backcourt more than ANOTHER 3&D guy (especially if there’s no D)

Isaac is making $25m this year for salary matching, as a result of his renegotiation and extension. Which Orlando JUST gave him, because they seem to want to keep him. Sacramento would need to send more salary filler to make a deal legal. Even then, Sacramento would owe additional value.

He needs to play quite a bit more to be a DPoY threat.

Huerter plays a much bigger role but doesn’t have a positive impact. Isaac has a huge positive impact in less than 20 min per game. I don’t know that the magic would want to trade him unless he is part of a package for a better player.
As is you need more value going to the magic.

They manage his minutes due to his injury history. He’s looked great but this is a very patient, methodical org…I’m less patient- but it seems to be working.

How about this trade instead? Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, Max Christie, 2029 FRP, 2031 FRP. Lakers get Goga or WCJ.

I’d assume the Magic would love that for the likely good picks, but why would the Lakers do that?

WCJ cant be traded this year. And Orlando is really liking what they see in Goga.
and we already have plenty of guards, but not a real dynamic PG, of which none of these players are. picks 5 and 7 years down the road arent moving the needle for a team looking to make a bigger splash in the playoffs this year.

I would think those picks have the potential to become very valuable trade capital. I understand your sentiment though, but I think trades where you increase value are smart. I think Orlando is a couple years away, so setting up to have the assets for a big mover seems smart to me.

Oh, Orlando would love to have those two picks. Any team should. They’re down the road, but could be pretty valuable. And for Goga, a really good player, but one where you have other good players at his position?
But also, LA wouldn’t offer two 1sts like that, so it’s moot.

I wish RealGM had a trade counter and showed people how many times the exact same trade has been proposed.
The premise of this trade has been beaten to death which always yields the same results.
Orlando needs a scorer more than just a shooter and has never really considered trading Isaac at no point of his career (Isaac stated this himself recently) which tells you what you need to know regarding how yhe organization values him.
Now this is not saying he’s untouchable, but it would take significantly a lot more than a Huerter centered trade for them to consider it.
Orlando PURPOSELY baby’s and manages his minutes for obvious reasons, this does not mean he’s not capable of playing 30M. It would probably be wise for any interested team to do the same in some regard if they value longterm health.
Lastly, Isaac plays a pivotal part to their top defense. Can virtually guard any position and absolutely can be considered for DPOTY IF the organization and himself chose but they’re all past that stage of his career.
He embodies everything the organization believes in politically/ethically (wether people like it or not) and that seems to really matter for the FO (this is also a big deal that opposing teams have to consider).

LA historically has not had that many high draft picks. and players like to go to LA and be around Hollywood, stars, etc. Could those picks be good? yes. those picks could also low-to-non lottery picks. Any GM that makes that trade is not likely around when they are available. the average GM tenure is just over 3 years. I can see a GM more readily choosing to starting winning now, rather than making a trade for picks that he will never use, but his successor does.
And right now, Goga is probably the best center we have on our roster.

isaac just played 22 min on 2nd night of btb and 25 min on 3rd game in 4 nights against philly and embid some so magic are letting him play more when needed...and had him on booker some the other day...really can go 1-5..would take big overpay for magic to move him really do not see it
