PDX / GSW
Portland Trades
Matisse Thybulle GF
Golden State Trades
DeAnthon Melton G
2026 ATL SRP
2029 GSW SRP Swap
WHY FOR PORTLAND
They have little room for MT with Camara taking the next step and the young Kris and Rayan showing rotation worthy play. They get a few SRP for a guy that doesnt fit the rotation and Melton can rehab - I could see them bringing him back 25/26 even if Simons is finally jettisoned.
WHY FOR GOLDEN STATE
They have plenty of shooters at the GF spot but Melton was, along with Payton, their disruptive defensive specialist. MT fits that role perfectly. He was a near 35% 3PT guy last season so his shooting is at least meh. He plays passing lanes well and has a tremendous motor. Can fill at SG or SF which is a bonus as Melton was more of a G and IMO GSW on paper looks like they need more GF swing types than pure guards.

I don't think these 2 FOs will be trading with each other in the near future.

This makes a lot of sense to me... but then again, I suggested it in the RWIII to GS thread too.
I like this for all parties involved.

I agree but no one else seems to think the ugliness with the GP departure will impact the relationship between POR and GSW.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Was more than the defense that made Melton the perfect fit next to Steph. Also good ball handler, passer and 3 point shooter. Thybuille is only one of those things - and that thing (shooting) he’s only barely passable imo, which is the last thing GS needs.
Don’t see Thybuille being the fit, especially with Wiggins being consistently reliable on defense again, even if the offense comes and goes

Robert Williams would be the guy GSW might be interested in, Thybulle is too similar to GPII.

Don't see the point in this at all really. Another guy defenses don't have to respect

I saw an article this summer indicating they still are not expected to work together, but I can’t remember if it was sourced or just speculation. As a Blazers fan, I don’t care. Make a trade with the Warriors if they think it is good for the team.

I'm lost, what happened between these 2 teams that may cause this?

The GPII trade got ugly after it turned out GPII was injured and getting pain killer to play or something like this.

This has more details, but essentially the Warriors claimed Blazers lied about Payton's health and then complained to the league about it.
Additionally, Blazers fans often speculated online various versions of a theory that Warriors couldn't pay Payton what he wanted and there was a conspiracy to have Payton (who was already injured) sign with another team for what he wanted and then force his way back to the Warriors once he has finished rehabbing. Some of the speculation included intentionally driving his own value down via injury claims, and then force his way back to the Warriors for a bad return, and then make differing claims about his health. This fan speculation was never substantiated and I never believed it, but some fans online (not that I see on Realgm) still hold a lot of ill will towards Payton, but most are willing to accept a trade with the Warriors.

I don’t have any issue with POR dealing with GSW. I just don’t know what is true with that whole scandal so the FO may be holding a grudge.

Yeah I mean so much of this depends on conversations between GSW, PDX, GP2, his agent, etc. taking place behind closed doors that I doubt the real story will ever be known publicly.
