DiVincenzo Offers?

shrink wrote:I think getting three years of DiVincenzo cheap was the main piece for MIN in the Towns deal, but with Ant and NAW SG’s as well, I’d be interested in hearing other deals that brought back a comparably valued player at center or maybe PG.
I wrote this last week, but NAW is playing so well that he has gotten two starts over DiVincenzo, which might not sit well with him. I haven’t heard any local rumors, and DDV was effusive on podcasts that he thinks MIN is a great opportunity, but it isn’t impossible he gets traded, so I was curious about offers.
MIN would likely want a rotation-level center and compensation. They are an apron team, so they can’t take back more salary (DiVincenzo. $11,445,000 $11,990,000 $12,535,000). They like their own guard prospects (Dillingham and Shannon) from this year’s draft. And they would likely prefer a player that is cost-controlled like DDV to avoid some future luxury taxes.
Again, I doubt a trade happens. Finch’s system should work well with a guy with DDV’s skillset, but hey, it’s November. Always time for some crazy trade discussion in November!

Suffice to say a win-now team isn't trading DDV for that.

I don't feel that starting NAW over DDV is a good plan for Minny even if he's playing well. It leaves all of the PG type responsibilities to Edwards and Randle and that leads to awkward team offense. Even if DDV is more combo guard than true PG he's still a better option to run an offense.

For what it is worth, I think the bigger problem is that it undermines the value of having Donte Divencenzo. By coming off of the bench, he is forced into a position of having to create for himself more. It makes WAY more sense for him to be operating off-ball with Julius Randle, Anthony Edwards, and Rudy Gobert (roll to kickouts).
Just bizarre lineup management by Coach Finch that I do not understand or agree with.

Something folks need to keep in mind is that, because Minnesota is above the Second-Apron, they cannot combine salaries or take back more salary in the trade. Makes trading him kind of difficult/awkward, at that $11.4 million salary slot.

NAW starts over him because Divo is barely a traffic cone on defense at the point of attack and every time he touches the ball on offense, he chucks a three or drives out of control into traffic before getting caught in the air with no where to go. Unfortunately, Randle has these specific roles all covered with the starters.

As a Knicks fan I will be highly upset if you guys turned down a Randle/Robinson deal just to finally accept a deal including DDV and then flip him for a rotation level center. I never got to see the full version of the Nova Knicks and DDV's career may have hit another bump in the road. You need to figure it out with Donte or find a way to send him back to New York.

What does that mean for NAW? Would Minny rather hold him because he's playing well, knowing they likely won't be able to retain him, or get some stuff for him while they still can?

Spurs should target him, Wesley + 2/3 second rd pick to Minny, Branham to another team and DDV to Spurs.
Minny drops below 2nd Apron ans saves a fortune, adds a scoring guard to the end of the bench, Spurs add legit guard to their rotation.

Bitadze is pretty much untouchable simply due to Carters uncertainty.

I would love to try to make something work around Cole Anthony + pick incentives. Not apples to apples players but both in a slump, both have a manageable salary (Minny shaves a yr. off). Cole can play PG and Minny can recoup some picks for future dealings.
Cole Anthony
‘25 FRP (via Denver) - projected to be 20-25 in a deep draft.
‘26 SRP (via Orlando)
For DDV

I agree. Maybe Knicks should have just waited until Mitch got back from injury before making the offer. I would have loved to see DDV with the rest of the NOVA Knicks.

Weird as it is, we'd miss Mitch more after the Bridges trade pushed DDV out of the starting lineup. Deuce's evolution and Payne coming in backfills a lot of that shooting from the bench that we would've gotten from Donte; whereas we have nobody who can anchor a defense by locking down the paint, the way Mitch can when he's healthy.
That's why I can still see us pursuing Kessler before the deadline.

I'm certainly excited by this team, but part of me will always wonder what would've happened if instead of spending big, we had sent Chicago two FRPs for Caruso and gone after Kessler / Bitadze to replace Hartenstein...keeping most of our ammo dry to end up with a team that IMO would've been just as good as this one:
Brunson - DiVincenzo - Anunoby - Randle - Robinson
McBride - Caruso - Hart - Achiuwa - Bitadze/Kessler
