CHA/ATL

very simple trade

Atlanta trades Larry Nance Jr
Charlotte trades Vasa Micic, 2025 worse of PHI/DEN 2nds

Charlotte, dealing with potentially extended injuries to our starting C, starting PF, backup C, and backup PF on the depth chart, get a cheap stopgap hybrid PF/C

Atlanta saves about $3.5M and picks up a 2nd for someone that isn't in their rotation. Micic has a team option for next year, and isn't owed guaranteed money after the season.

Idea seems fine. And I get why the Hornets want to pay that little. I wonder if one mediocre 2nd is the top bid for Nance though? Can you make it better of NOP/Worse of DEN/PHI with like a top 35 protection in case the wheels just fall completely off the Pels?

Or maybe a 2nd in the late 40s early 50s is the top bid? IDK how to value Nance.

I think the original offer is about right. Hawks are trading a solid, but not quite in the rotation, big on an expiring contract. The Hawks are utilizing him effectively, really helps that he's shooting 64% on threes. But unless he’s been injured recently he’s still only play about 15 minutes per game in like half the games they’ve played so far.

About the only change is I think the Hawks would try to move Micic onto a 3rd team, but I don’t know how possible that is

yeah that's a better idea. they can take the best out of whichever of our 2nds falls out of the top 40, whether that's ours, DEN, or NOLA.

Nance is a great locker room guy. I doubt the Hawks are in a rush to move him, especially when Okongwu and Capela aren't the most durable.

Nance would help a bunch of teams. Including OKC - salary matching isn't easy for them, but it's doable, and they could obviously up the ante as much as they need to. I doubt Atlanta can get a first, but multiple seconds, or a likely high second plus a marginal prospect, seems very achievable.
