Nick Richards, Vasa Micic, Cody Martin
for
John Collins
Charlotte adds a much-needed frontcourt piece with injuries decimating the roster. Collins can be a stopgap, or play his way into being a core piece, he'll definitely have the opportunity.
Utah gets potential 100% cap relief on Collins' final year, with all three of Micic, Martin, and Richards having team options or fully unguaranteed salary next season, making them ok trade chips. Utah can also squeeze two of the three players into existing exceptions, creating an $18M trade exception immediately if they want to absorb contracts for picks at the deadline. Cody Martin is playing decent this season and maybe could be flipped at the deadline for a 2nd or two.

i think OP is just short of the 125% matching rule. need to add 1 more filler

Collins has actually been playing great but the Jazz should definitely do this considering their real goal is to capture the Flagg. He would fit next to LaMelo finishing pick n rolls/pops similar to how he played off Trae Young.
I have no idea if this trade works in the checker though.

Once CBA legal, I would do this. Don't really care who the filler is - is Bouknight's contract still around? Collins has been very good, his passing, particularly, has been unlocked this season. I think he can help a team, but his contract is still ... not great even when averaging 18/10/4.

pretty sure the rule is just that we can acquire $7.5M more than what we send out, so we just need to get to $19.1M here. Micic+Martin+Nick = $20.8M
In theory Taj Gibson instead of Nick Richards also just barely squeezes in there but I honestly don't even want to wait till December 15th if we don't have to

i believe if you are sending out more than 19M then you use the 125% +100k or something instead of the 7.5M

this says $29M not $19M

If I'm reading it correctly, Collins and Richards are the only two with guaranteed money beyond this season. That $21.5MM savings next summer — even if Danny only rents out the cap space again — plus the fact that Collins is raising Utah's floor too much in a tanking season are reasonable incentives. I'm the rare Collins fan, but I'd do it... reluctantly.
With the Jazz currently at 15 players on the regular roster, which two do you waive to make this happen? Svi + Drew or Bryce?

I'd waive any/all of Svi/Drew/Patty to make it happen.

If you're waiting until Dec 15th, I think you could find someone who would return a really small value for Svi/Drew and waive whoever is sent back.

Nick Richards isn't guaranteed next year either.
It's full expirings, each one having either UNG money or a TO for next year.

Swap Josh Green for Cody Martin? Not an expiring, but not sure Utah will be able to use that much space in one summer anyway, at least this upcoming FA class

Yeah I don't think it really matters on Utah's end. None of those guys are long term fits although maybe Martin could be flipped to a 3rd team for some kind of asset (SRP)?
Collins is actually a pretty nice player but at 27 is not going to fit this rebuild when their future franchise guy is probably 17-19 yo and not even on the roster yet. I have the same concern about Lauri too fwiw.

Don't forget that John Collins is either an expiring (PO) or he doesn't play well enough to get the big contract and then you have to pay him $26M next season too
His numbers are quite good on one of the worst teams in the league

Solid, unexciting and realistic. I like it. This makes sense for both, I think. I like Collins as a rental and the monetary side is worth it for the Jazz.

i don't think there's much of a chance he opts out for a major pay jump unless Charlotte goes on a major run after everyone's healthy, and Collins is a huge part of it.
The theoretical healthy Hornets starting five has Collins as the 4th best scorer. His numbers could look much better if Mark Williams and/or Bridges continue to miss large chunks of time, but we're also not a good team without them.
