TOR - OKC: Kelly Olynyk to the THUNDER

Rationale:
The Thunder are ready for a championship run, but they need another vet big who can ideally play both the 4/5, to spell the minutes between Chet and Hartenstein. JWill is ideally more of a SF than a PF, when it will come down the playoffs.
The Raptors are looking to tank and accumulate picks/prospects. Olynyk is well liked, but this is about team direction.
OKC has 3 picks coming up in the draft. This trade assumes Olynyk comes back healthy soon, and performs decent (ie 10/6/3). Toronto has been slow walking injury returns (eg Scottie, Quickley, Olynyk, BBrown) so these guys will come back well rested.
The trade:
Kelly Olynyk
for
Lowest non lotto ‘25 1st (OKC/PHX/HOU/LAC/MIA/PHI) + Salary (Aaron Wiggins)
Don’t really care who the outgoing salary is from OKC.

I wouldn't trade Aaron Wiggins straight up for Olynyk, let alone add a 1st.

I am a big Olynyk fan, but he isn’t worth a first. Wiggins is a pretty decent asset as well. I think this could be a straight up trade maybe, or maybe Toronto has to add a 2nd.
Olynyk needs to play a few games this year as well to show he is healthy.
I really don’t love the premise for the Thunder.

I'm an Olynyk fan too but he isn't worth a 1st. The Jazz had to add Agbaji in order to get a late FRP for him in the last draft. Maybe the Thunder are just too stacked with late FRPs? I doubt Presti would do it though.

A 2nd maybe, but a frp is a reach

I cannot see how anyone would think he is worth this. Hurt all season and yet his asking price is more than he has ever fetch in a trade in the season he is turning 34.
Tis the season for asking twice the value of what you role player is worth I guess.

As others have said, WIggins alone is worth more than KO. Adding a first is just nonsensical

more likely than not OKC will trade their lowest 25 1st(s) for a future swap or pick. definitely not for olynyk

Yeah, this needs to be revised. I just kinda put Wiggins there as the closest salary match. But he can be taken out.
Something like this maybe, where OKC sends out the injured JWill + Ken Will as salary blast.
Olynyk
for
Lowest ‘25 1st + salary (JWill + Kenrich Will)Those guys are basically 11th men on OKC.

I'll let OKC fans weigh in, but I don't really buy the premise that the Thunder would be all that interested in adding him.

Most of my point was you are not getting a first KO

Jaylin Williams, Kendrick Williams and an OKC 2nd seems about reasonable value.

I don't think I like OKC even using the salary they would need to match much less adding incentive like this. I mean I see all the suggested salary and I'd rather have those players than Kelly O.
Couple things to keep in mind--on a team with no bad salary, you need to make sure you are sending them a better player if you are asking for incentive. And just because a player might be an 11th or 12th man on a deep team doesn't mean they should just give them to your team at an unreasonable valuation.
Some teams have 11th and 12th men with trade value. Some, like my little Mavs...., don't. But that's an important distinction.

Yeah. Sam Vecenie was talking the other day about Wiggins maybe being the best value contract in the league; he's good and fills a valuable rotation spot, and he's locked in. I'm an Olynyk guy but this just flat doesn't make sense. If OKC adds a big man, it'll either be a minimum or they'll be trading to de-clutter their defensive guard rotation (I still think Dort is a likely candidate to be moved within the next year).

I probably will trade multiple 2nds for Schroeder, KO, Larry nance with something around Dieng . But salary and utility doesn’t make sense once I have to match and add probably Kenrich.
It’s unlikely those team will want just seconds for the trio as well.
Edit - Reed / Drummond / buyout options(Dieng+2nd(s) for slot) is probably a more realistic use for Dieng salary/slot at the trade deadline.

Dieng + Jaylin Williams is enough to match all those names fwiw

I'm not convinced that the likes of Drummond and Reed are tangibly better than Jaylin Williams. That also doesn't take in to account that Jaylin Williams is one of the best locker room chemistry guys in the league.

OKC has enough young perimeter players that if they restock their post rotation (though health and perhaps an extra trade like this) so they aren't playing 5 perimeter players all game someone decent is getting squeeze out of the rotation. Seems like there might be a deal sending out their extra perimeter guy for Olynyk. No 1st added obviously.

OKC just doesn’t have the right filler for this. I wouldn’t trade Kenrich straight up for Kelly probably, given chemistry and versatility. Or wouldn’t add a first for sure. Not seeing Dieng, Wiggins, Joe or any of those guys involved unless Toronto is kicking back value.
Kelly is a 10-15 mpg guy on OKC, and they should really aim higher with the assets they have to add a 4.
Someone like Reed fits in the room exception, which makes more sense.

As a Pistons fan I’m curious as to what the trade is here
