Jimmy Buckets to OKC

Post#1 » by Slim Charless » Fri Nov 29, 2024 8:56 pm

Heat embrace the draft and send away Butler for youth. The Thunder cash some of their chips in for a guy who when healthy is elite. OKC loses nothing too major and will be the frontrunner over even Boston with Jimmy there. Miami gets a possible PGOTF that won't effect their tank while also picking up a cpl extra picks to add guys or trade later down the road.

Thunder:

Nikola Topic
Isiah Joe
Dort
2025 Heat pick returned
2025 Thunder pick
2027 Nugs pick (1-5 protection)

Heat:

Butler

Thoughts? Even trade imo

Seems like a pretty big overpay.

This is not Butler's trade value anymore. It seems like everyone wants to tax OKC since they have more assets so they should just pay more.

I really don't love the target regardless, too much risk of personalities with a reduced role for Jimmy.

Yeah as others have suggested Butler doesn’t have this kind of value. Remove the picks and maybe it’s up for discussion. I’d rather have Dort than Butler AT this point.

Unfortunately, Jimmy no longer has this kind of value. Kinda similar to Derozan last year. Good player, but contract year and at the age where no team is going to spend a lot to acquire him.

Ditto . . . considering age/contract/role, I'd rather have Dort then Butler straight up, let alone giving up more assets

Oh I'd rather have Butler than Dort, though I appreciate Lu. But not this much more. Especially not unless I was convinced Jimmy knew coming in this was SGA's team and he was coming in to support.

But Freak makes a good point, Miami is unlikely looking to start parting out their roster which would what they would need to do after this.

Na. Jimmy leaving doesn't mean they have to trade Bam or Herro. The rest are pretty young. I suppose they can move Scary Terry, but he doesn't really matter.

As for the value, u don't think that Jimmy is worth a minor prospect and a cpl of picks?

I think a team headlined by Herro/Bam has a ceiling of the play-in, maybe not even that. So you would be better served selling more stuff if you are selling Jimmy. Because you are going nowhere.

Is Jimmy worth a minor prospect and 3 firsts including returning Miami's own? Maybe, those aren't great picks.

But Dort and Joe aren't just neutral salary filler. Those are good players whose value you aren't accounting for at all.

Again, as stated already, just because OKC has extra assets doesn't mean they are obligated to overpay for guys. A bottle of Arizona tea costs 99 cents for both me and Mark Cuban. He doesn't have to pay $3 just because he could.

I’d be more interested in Bam given age, disposition, and fit.

But I bet that trade would require more than I’d be willing to pony up.

I live in Hawaii, that same bottle/can cost me 1.49 :-?

To the point, I guess you're right about the play-in stuff, but they can always tank. Which for the record, I would for sure do. Sit Bam and Herro, play Ware and the rest of the kids and let Terry shoot as much as he wants in order to maybe build his value in the offseason. It wouldn't have to be Dort too, i would think that Wiggins is a fine sub.

OKC really couldn't offer Butler another contract - when Williams and Chet get off their rookie deals they won't be able to also be paying Butler. So it's a half-year rental deal - or at most a 1.5 year deal (they could afford the 1 extra year). That limits what makes sense to give up.

Correct. I could see Miami trading Jimmy if it meant getting a better long term piece, but for that they would obviously need to give more value, which for the right piece, I'd like to think they would do. But I can't see Miami going full rebuild. And no, Jimmy doesn't have this sort of value, but if he did, we'd be turning that value into a player who can make us better...

As is often the case, Chuck and I agree here. I would rather have Butler than Dort (especially given this team's lack of offensive creation outside of SGA and maybe Dub). But the opportunity cost is high, and I don't think the Heat do this directionally anyway.

- JW + Hartenstein
- 2025 returned
- 2025 Utah pick

That'll do for me.

Right but OKC wouldn't do Jalen Williams, who is looking like a very elite wing at 23 with few holes in his game if any. They wouldn't do Chet either.

I wouldn't do Cason but that's the kind of centerpiece we'd be talking about with picks probably. But I don't expect that to excite the Heat.

I am sure it would haha.

Jimmy is worth at max 2 firsts right now. His contract is a nightmare for the acquiring team.

You want to trade for a franchise player and offer Cason + picks in return? yeah, good luck

He asked for Bam and I voted Miami has to add...
