Vooch to Golden State

Post#1 » by gswhoops » Sat Nov 30, 2024 3:56 pm

Takes place on December 15 once Melton can be traded:

De'Anthony Melton (1 year, $12.8M)
Kevon Looney (1 year, $8.0M)
2026 ATL 2nd round pick
2029 GSW 2nd round pick

-for-

Nikola Vucevic (2 years, $41.4M)

Why for Chicago? Clear off the last year of Vuc's contract and get a replacement C who can backfill his minutes and a couple second round picks.

Smith/Looney
Williams/Matas
Giddey/Craig/Terry
LaVine/Ayo/THT
White/Lonzo/Carter

Why for Golden State? Get a big-bodied C who can stretch the floor while holding onto assets to make upgrades elsewhere if needed. Gives us the flexibility to potentially move Kuminga into the starting lineup.

Vuc/TJD
Draymond/SloMo/Gui
Kuminga/Moody/Waters
Wiggins/Hield/GP2
Curry/Podziemski/Spencer (signed from two-way)

Good gamble for GS, they are the type of team that would take this gamble on the tail end of Steph's run. They really need some more shooting in the front court.

Likely the best Chicago could hope for so if they decide to throw in the towel I could see it.

yeah I like it for both. Salary relief and a couple picks seems like plenty of value and Vuc seems like a good fit for the Warriors.

I like the fit of Vuc in GSW a lot.

But this is underselling him. He can give you 20/10/3 with very good floor spacing.

It works when you add in TJD, so that Bulls can have a front court prospect.

IT doesn't work for GSW who needs depth. And since they are win now and Chicago would be rebuilding, it doesn't make sense for GSW to create a hole to solve a perceived value issue. If you think GSW owes value, have them give it in a way that doesn't hurt their current roster.

Yeah TJD isn’t a “prospect” - he’s a starter who plays a pretty important role on our team. Including him would be a deal breaker.

Vuc as a stretch 5 would be good for GS in that it opens opportunity for Kuminga to start. Don't like what it does to the defense, which the team has hung it's hat on this year- especially giving up Loon in the deal. Would do this for Kuminga and probably end up having to trade him for a POA guard who can handle and create a little anyway.

Rather prioritize getting that personally

The expirings are good for the Bulls, the 2nd round picks will be a noticeable change for a team with hardly any 5 years on either side of 2024.

It's refreshing to see someone who figures out that if the Bulls trade their starting 34 minutes a game center they need another center back. Once Melton can be traded he apparently just sits behind the bench.

Melton is out for the year so good luck trading him again

Let’s make a 3 team deal Grizz offer Konchar and two more 2nds for Looney.

I think including Melton tilts the value a bit too far in favour of GSW.

CHI would only take the dead money of Melton if (1) they want to tank or (2) they get compensated (another SRP or 2?) for taking him. I'd be surprised if CHI tanks unless they are far out of it at the TDL, and even then, I'd be a surprising pivot for the CHI front office.

Why? We already have Huff, Edey and JJJ and Clarke can play minutes at C

IT doesn't work for GSW who needs depth. And since they are win now and Chicago would be rebuilding, it doesn't make sense for GSW to create a hole to solve a perceived value issue. If you think GSW owes value, have them give it in a way that doesn't hurt their current roster.

Make it simpler then:

Take out one of the 2nds, and add in a top 18 protected GSW 1st. The ‘25 pick should be around mid 20s.

GSW keeps all their contributors, dumps dead weight, and significantly improves their front court.

Shockingly, Vuc is playing the best ball of his career. It’s the DDR effect.

2nds don’t mean much. I’d rather a pick swap to even out value. 2024 Bulls 2nd via the Kings for Dubs 1st top 20 protected.

He would be unplayable in PS. Plus Kerr really only plays center for defense. We would be really bad defensively

I'm skeptical of Vooch on GSW. We play a heavy switching defensive style, and I don't think it fits Vooch.

Our biggest weakness right now is a 2nd option on offense that can create with the ball in their hand, I don't think Vooch helps there.

I'm skeptical about Vuc being that playable for the Warriors defense. Still might be worth it but it's not a sure thing.

I also feel that Vuc for EC(s) is still a win for Chicago, especially if one can backfill some C minutes (Looney). A few weeks of good play doesn't massively change the trade value of a 34 year old long-term vet. I don't think Chicago needs to move Vuc (it's not like he's blocking a young center or anything) but if they can move him for such a deal they should take it. Holding out for a 1st is the same as saying Vuc is untouchable because it's never going to happen.

Looney is an expiring vet center who can provide playoff experience and another rebounder. Physicality is needed especially come playoff time. That and moving off Konchar is a solid move if it requires a few seconds.

$ may grow on trees in GS, but the dynasty generating the fan following is end stage.

I just don't see how a team over the tax would surrender expiring contracts when their top young player is asking for huge money in advance of his (restricted) free agency.

If anything, the Warriors would be looking to dump Wiggins for expirings, and sliding Kuminga into that starting spot and salary slot.

Your proposal defies their financial pickle and pushes them into a spot where their flexibility is diminished.

Vooch to GS is something I just can't fathom for financial reasons alone.

Some GS fans here also compelled me in pointing out how Looney works for their defensive schemes. They like to switch. Vuc plays one side of the ball.

If anything, GS has to start surveying the market for a young, cost-controlled center. Looney is due a raise as well, so they do have the cost hedged. They lose that the instant they trade him for a 20 million dollar center.
