MPJ Value

Bulls fan looking at potential trades for Lavine and Craig. Bulls wouldn’t want MPJ but would want to flip him for a 1st.

What’s MPJ’s value?

What’s MPJ’s value?

Maybe you find someone willing to trade bad contracts and a first for him, but I don't think you'll get more than that.

For MPJ?

He has chronic back issues and he’s not cheap.

With the athletic reporting Lavine to DEN as a possibility…

Who would want MPJ?

For how much?

I don’t. Want to keep their pick. Have Pat and Buz at wings.

I could probably give you expirings, maybe a second.

DEN in: Lavine and Lewis
CHI in: DLO, Nnaji, Vando, Vincent
LAL in: MPJ and Cancar

or

DEN in: Lavine
CHI in; DLO, Rui, JHS, Nnaji
LAL in: MPJ and Cancar

No way. Rather just have MPJ. Think Bulls can flip him for future 1st with a bad contract incoming.

Nanji awful contract.

Just spitballing an idea:

DEN receives: Lavine
SAS receives: MPJ
CHI receives: K. Johnson + Z. Collins + Z. Nnaji + CHI 25 FRP back

DEN gets the guy they want. Gives them more offensive versatility.

SAS gets a win now player that is also still young. A slashing Castle (or CP3) with Vassell, MPJ, Barnes as shooting threats and Wemby in the middle looks dangerous on paper.

CHI breaks Lavine's contract into 3 smaller contracts. Maybe they can rebuild the value of both Keldon and Collins while also helping their tank. Most importantly they get their 25 FRP back and don't risk the lottery balls potentially screwing them.

Wonder if the Pistons could be interested in him as a spacer for Cade. Could be a third team for the Bulls (Lavine) or Pelicans (Ingram). Something like:

MPJ to DET
Ingram to DEN
expirings (THJ), Fontecchio, DEN pick swap, 2nds to NOP

Denver gets a 2nd playmaker in Ingram with agreements in place for a short team near max deal (2+1 or 1+1). Pistons gets an elite spacer who's still young enough to fit their timeline. Pelicans get minor pick capital, out of the luxury tax, and a flier on Fonteccino as a depth piece next season.

Duren/ Stewart/ Reed
MPJ/ Harris
Ausar/ Holland
Cade/ Beasley
Ivey/ Sasser

Doesn't include Chicago but here goes. Might be DOA depending on how Denver fans feel about Bridges.

Denver out: MPJ, Nnaji, Saric, next available 1st top 2 protected then unprotected.
Denver In: Bridges, Sexton, Jeffries (or other filler), Worst 1st out of Minnesota and Cleveland top 20 protected.
Denver sends out 1 starter level player in return for 2. Pick up a late first as change for using a lightly protected future 1st to dump Nnaji.

Charlotte out: Bridges, Green, Jeffries
Charotte in: MPJ, Saric, Eubanks
Charlotte moves on from Bridges for a better shooter having a career year who seems to have moved past his injury woes while also dumping Green.

Utah out: Sexton, Eubanks, Top 20 protected 1st that is the worst of Minnesota and Cleveland.
Utah in: Nnaji, Robinson, Lightly protected to unprotected 1st from Denver
Utah lowers guaranteed money next season while punting a late 1st in hopes of it ending up better placed and when they will need it more at the cost of eating Nnaji's multi year deal.

Miami out: Robinson
Miami in: Green
Miami gets a young player who could benefit from their system while reducing their LT payment significantly this season.

MPJ's value for Denver >>>>>>>>>>> MPJ's value for anybody else

For Denver on offense perfect compliment to Murray/Jokic 2 man game, spacing the court with AG in dunker spot and Braun cutting. Not a ball dominant player, small usage, very good shooter from midrange and 3. Consistent. Atacking the rim more this season, great at finishing, he added some passing to his game. 18+ ppg scorer as 3rd option with 13-14 shots per game, not because he can't score more but because Nuggets don't use him more for that.

On deffense good compliment to AG with his lenght disrupting the passing lines, great rebounder for SF. Can guard less dangerous wing with AG as point of attack defender.

For anybody else he is a player that had 3 back surgeries and the next one could mean end of basketball for him. On max contract, but can't create for himself or anybody else.

So, for his trade to happen eather Nuggets give him for much less than he brings to them, or other team gives a lot for him and risks he could end his career after 10 games.

This, plus he isn’t a good defender despite his size and length (can be a decent defender when he really goes all out, but most of the time neutral to bad defender is fair,) and he is used to having someone with the enormous gravity of Joker and the efficiency of the Denver passing game created by that gravity feeding him. Put another way, Joker makes everyone better for being near him. I would love a detailed breakdown of MPJs numbers with Joker off the court. I suspect he looks much more pedestrian.

Seems like Pat is more a backup.

Buz, MPJ, Pat could be your 3-4 rotation.

MPJ for Miles and Micic.

Basically this is Denver swapping MPJ for Miles and adding Micic to their bench.

Charlotte gets a better fitting 3rd option for our 3pt based offense.

Pat isn't good, though.

Some could say MPJ’s back could go south too quickly to invest in, but if I’m Cleveland I definitely think about Strus + LeVert for MPJ.

All fair and valid points but any reasonable move to upgrade the nuggets realistically ?
