Magic/Wolves/3rd team Magic tread injury water

Post#1 » by winforlose » Sat Dec 7, 2024 9:46 pm

So the Magic are once again dealing with injury issues. Assume that they need an influx of talent to keep their season afloat. Do the Magic want Julius Randle and what does that deal look like? The Wolves need a backup C, a backup PF, and would also be good with a backup PG. The Wolves do not need another SG or SF unless they send one out.

So what’s the early part of the trade? Like who temporarily goes to the Wolves from Orlando?

How likely is Randle to pickup his player option for next year? I don't know how happy he'd be on the bench after Franz's and Paolo are both back and the last thing I'd want next year is a disgruntled Randle in the 2nd unit. Also given that I feel it would certainly be a pure rental with no desire to keep him long term I would hope the Magic wouldn't be willing to give up much. Even if all that can be worked out I'd be wary of the culture fit and how his lack of defensive effort could hurt our overall defense more than his admittedly much needed offense will help.

They could use backcourt scoring…definitely not Randle

If Randle picks it up you have a decent value deal in the low 30s for a 20+ PPG scorer with size. Expirings have trade value. If he doesn’t you got a rental for this season and don’t lose even more ground because of injury. As for the price, I honestly don’t know. That is why the thread exists. Either way, until PB gets back the Magic are behind the 8 ball, once he does the Magic are still down FW and could probably use some help.

I understand that our offense is in trouble but the more I think about it the less I want anything to do with Randle. I’d rather not waste any assets on a guy that will never be a long-term piece for us and would rather spend more and look elsewhere for some one that could potentially still have a role when we get healthy.

This is a perfectly logical and reasonable opinion. That said, those players tend to be harder to find and more expensive to acquire. End of the day “you get what you pay for.” If you want to go the more expensive route you will have to give more to get more.

Is it time for the Magic to finally trade for Simons?

Magic gets Randle
Houston gets Black, jettH
Minny gets landale, JeffGreen, CAnthony, Caleb (small salary filler), three seconds from Houston.
Orl gets Randle who they need now and will be good change up later.
Minnesota gets the positions filled it needs.
Houston takes on a couple of disappointing prospects that might turn it around.

I don't think our front office is at the point where they have given up on Anthony Black as a potential long-term piece so I can't see a scenario where they would be willing to move off him for a guy who would have no place in Orlando once we are healthy. Maybe I could see them moving him if it was for someone that would still have a place once Paolo and Franz are healthy.

Asking price has dropped significantly. Now is the time to strike Orlando.

Really nice of Houston to offer to take all the extra value out of the deal. How does landale jeff green and some 2nds get them that return?

Minnesota doesn't have the roster spots to do a 1 for 4.

They still have Isaac, WCJ, Goga and Mo Wagner. It would not be a good idea to trade for Randle. Maybe they could trade for a cheap bigman as well, but main target should be someone that could play alongside Paolo and Franz. They need to trade for a guard that can provide offense, this has been the case for a while now. They needed to do this before last years trade deadline. After signing KCP I still wanted them to upgrade from Cole. Now they should be aggressively trying to look for that upgrade, but I wont get my hopes up.

Some names: Sexton, Brogdon, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Coby White, Simons.

Any of these guys could start while Paolo and/or Franz are out, but move to the bench when they're all healthy. This would give the Magic the 6th man they need instead of trying to rely on 20 year old Black.

Sexton, Simons, Clarkson all still available and seem like good stopgap offensive options for ORL while we wait for our stars to come back. Then all could slide to Cole Anthony's former 6th man role for our team for a bench scorer so we can hide them more on defense.
