Indiana Houston Dec 15th deal

I am generally terrible at trade ideas as I usually piss off the fan bases of both team but here it goes anyways.

Indiana trades Pascal Siakam

Houston trades. Jabari Smith, Dillon Brooks, and Jock Landale. 25 Pheonix 1st, 26 OKC 1st.

Why for Houston: They cash in some of their assets for an upgrade at the 4. Siakam is a proven playoff performer. This also allows more playing time for Thompson and Eason at the 3.

Why for Indiana: Smith and Walker competes for the 4 spot plus Indiana adds defense, size and depth to their front court.

Draft pick evaluations I never get right but was thinking 2 late 1st sound about right. Siakam is the best player in the deal.

I think they have Eason penciled in as their starting PF in any Jabari trade. More specifically, they need to upgrade their backcourt. Siakam/Sengun sounds like a bad idea defensively.

Siakim is on the wrong side of 30, has a massive contract and has devolved from a "great" player into a "good" player.

I don't think he has much value and also doesn't really fit.

Don't really care to add a maxed out siakam to the team, should aim higher. If he was in a good deal maybe but he just makes too much relative to his caliber of player and a trade like this takes them out of bidding wars for other potential players.

Sengun has been very good defensively this year, surprisingly. Better than Jabari id say. I know people say this about their young guys all the time but he changed his body and the rim protection has taken a leap. All the numbers like on/off, epm, block+Steal+foul rate, RAPTOR (can still find it on a former 538 employee sub stack) say hes been quite good. Now.. idk if the weight loss has made him more susceptible to contact or it's just a random bad stretch or what but his issue is he can't make layups this year after being fantastic around the rim his whole basketball career

The timeline doesn't make much sense, especially not at that price no.

You're 100% correct... in that you didn't get it right. Siakam doesn't have this kind of value. Sorry, but not even close.

The Pacers need to do something, but I don't think moving on from Siakam so soon after acquiring him and giving him a big new contract is the answer right now. That aside, you need to revisit the picks you have Houston sending out. Their 26 1st is going to OKC or Philly, so neither it nor the 25 1st is available. They have all of their own 1sts beginning in 27, as well as Phoenix's 27 1st and either Dallas or Phoenix's 29 1st. If you're offering 2 1sts, they would have to come from that selection.

I don't see the Rockets making a major trade unless someone like Giannis or Anthony Edwards comes available.

These mid-level players like Siakam, Ingram and Bridges make no sense, especially if Houston has to give up young core players and their valuable picks for them.

If they do anything before the deadline, it will be something much smaller.

So a player who is in his prime is on the wrong side of 30. NBA prime age(easily googleable) is 27-31.

Where is my valuation off? If you have nothing to offer other than a blank statement then this is fruitless.

My bad on the picks. I used Spotrac as a reference and is very confusing as I thought they had both those picks available from the other teams. I also figured Siakiam with J.Smith and 2 late picks was fair value. Brooks and Landale while have value were really here for salary purposes.

Yes, wrong side of 30 meaning he is expected to get worse as time goes on and not better.

You can just look at his BPM on the time bell curve and its doesnt look good.

Brooks is good and important to Houston, not salary filler from their pov and that 25 pick is currently 13th, so might not be a late pick anyways

To some people if a player is over 21 he's over the hill.

I feel like Pascal still has really high value.

Maybe not to a young team with Sengun, Jabari, Eason.. But that doesn’t impact Pascal’s value very much in my mind. Other teams will pay to have a player at his level, who is locked up like he is.

I think Indy should keep the group together. The pieces fit really well and there’s a ton of talent.

And Houston should be patient unless it’s for a player that fits well in Sengun, factoring in age pretty heavily unless they feel it makes them a contender.
