Why for Minnesota: get a cost controlled 3rd big and save a chunk of money

I’ve been thinking about a Vuc trade to open up the opportunity to give Smith the keys at center. This could be a good option for that…
I am unsure if Detroit goes for both Randle and Vuc though. One, sure. But both seems like a lot of redundancy and a very bad time on the defensive side of the floor.
If I’m SAS I may try to find a way to get Randle. Feels like a big bruiser type could be good for a frontcourt partner with Wemby.
Minnesota probably does this. I may just like Beef Stew and Tre Jones and passionately hate watching Randle though…

I think Pistons fans were concerned about lack of spacing in a Harris for Randle swap so i added in a Vuc for Stewart to balance it out

I doubt the Spurs want to pay big money for a different flavour of H.Barnes.

So just from the Minnesota side, the talent is at the right positions, but the value seems off. First, we wouldn’t be sending out any picks. We only have 3 or 4 2nds in the next seven years, and they don’t move lightly. Second, Tre Jones isn’t a rotation player for a season long tanking team. He is much closer to a PG3 than a PG2. Beef Stew is okay, but his production relative to his money is far from a good deal. 15 million for a backup C is a lot. Worse, his 3 point shooting has regressed to the point I am not sure he could play beside Rudy if Naz is out. Randle is a starter quality NBA power forward averaging more than 20 PPG on a reasonable deal with a high likelihood of being back on that deal next year. Even assuming the option lowers his value some, the Wolves need more. Be it picks (including a first that is lightly or not at all protected,) or a prospect. Beef Stew and Tre Jones isn’t a good return.

Really hard pass from detroit. Vucrvic and Randle are the opposite of what we are looking for.

$15 million for a backup center wasn't even that bad of a deal when we were paying it to Gorgui Dieng 10 years ago. It's time you recalibrate your cap sheets to the times we're living in today. $15 million is only slightly above MLE level today, not three times the MLE like it was back then. It's also important to start thinking about the Rudy Gobert succession plan. Stewart is 23 years old, so he fits perfectly in the Ant/Jaden/Naz window.

Tre might only be a third point guard. But don't we already have Conley and Dillingham on the roster?! Meaning he would be the third guy in line for minutes. Sounds like a fair and accurate assessment of his value.

Don't make the Bulls scratch their head and say, WHAT? They take a serious step DOWN on the court, save zero contract years and all of $3M to get 2 2nd round picks? No how do they think that's a good move.

You think Beef Stew is the Gobert Successor? The Gobert Successor is going to be a 5 out C who wants to run. Think Leonard Miller only more polished and with rim protection.

15 million isn’t a bad contract. I didn’t say it was. What I said was that 15 million isn’t a value contract. I don’t like Randle, you don’t like Randle, and Wolves fans don’t like Randle. That said, he is on a value contract relative to production. He is still a high end scorer with a very high ceiling. This is a super sell low. Moreover, it means we traded KAT for DDV, Beef Stew, Tre Jones, a conditional first. Connelly couldn’t survive it, so he won’t do it. We need value contracts or a blue chip or picks or some combination of them just to give Connelly the cover to make a Randle trade.
