His value right now is as a sweetener. A nice piece, but not the centerpiece of any big trade. He's a guy you kick the tires on if you get the chance, but you don't HAVE to have him. If he's included in the deal, great, but if not, meh.
You have New Orleans giving up Ingram for him. Granted, Ingram's value isn't sky-high, but he certainly would command more than Whitmore and nothingness.
Now, you're stealing Zimpy's idea but neglecting the fact that, in that trade, Miami got another starter in D'Angelo Russell. Granted, he's not the best, but he's expiring and he's a starter. Tate would struggle to find time in Miami with Ingram, Herro, Highsmith, Robinson, and Jacquez all in front of him in the rotation, so we need sweetener, too.
