Need value help. I think Brooklyn owes GSW a bit of value here, but IDK.

Also this puts Brooklyn ever so slightly into the tax, so that has to be addressed, but that's easy for Brooklyn to fix by dumping a guy and cash on a 3rd team. Not derailing this over that.

I would add in where GSW can swap their 1st for the 2nd best 1st Brooklyn ends up with. Today that would be a move from 22 to 19. But????

Nets get an offensive forward prospect with RFA rights and no real competition in free agency for a couple of role playing vets (and a minor pick swap?).

Warriors cash out on a guy they are unsure they want to give another contract to for a 3&D wing who is playoff proven and a bench scorer/shot creator. And maybe get a small move up in the draft.

The trade machine says that the trade works but the Nets would be adding a small amount of salary.

Sending Melton or Payton to a third team with something else coming to the Nets could fix that problem.

While Kuminga is younger with more upside Schroeder is easily the best player in the deal with the way he is balling out this year.

The Nets might be looking for draft capital on this one especially if it pushes them into the apron.

between wiggins and green i'm not sure they really need DFS that much? i think a smaller deal of melton+filler+value for schroder is more likely

If we're talking straight talent/upside, maybe the Nets need to add, I just can’t see the Nets being willing to add, especially if this puts them in the tax. If the Nets want Kuminga, they can throw a sizeable offer at him and dare GSW to match and deal with tax implications and apron restrictions in the offseason. The only other team currently projected to have enough space to do that is Washington.

Back when Schroder was much younger, and played this well, he was traded to the Lakers for Danny Green and the 28th overall pick. And that was after a full season of this quality play, and he still had a full season left under contract. It’s midseason, and he’s expiring, here.

I say that to say that Schroder isn’t going to return as much as you think. Including DFS to get a Kuminga type player/prospect is probably pretty good, especially if you’re not taking back future salary.

Best maybe. Most valuable, definitely not. He's less valuable than Kuminga and DFS due to size and positional value.

You said more than that. You also said that you wanted more than Kuminga and expirings. At least, that’s what the bolded statements tells me.

I think if GS is shopping Kuminga it needs to return someone better than this. Even if it has to include 1-2 of their firsts to do that. They need top end talent, no matter if it’s a two year run or not.

But I’ll also be the last to give up on Kuminga’s ceiling..

If GSW does do it, Brooklyn should do this no matter what direction they plan to go next year. Even if the deal ends up flipping Kuminga to a third team for a better singular asset than their vets can return.


As for salary issue, feels minor. Whoever Brooklyn sends out to get back to 15 players will mean they are trimming salary in the deal.. unless I’m missing something?

Looks like it's going to be Melton plus a FRP or Podz for Schoder, GS balked at Kuminga. May be worth it's own thread now.

Per Shams and Stein, looks like Melton/Schroeder is about to go down. Probably waiting on anything more
