Anyone want some free Jingles?

Post#1 » by winforlose » Sun Dec 15, 2024 12:35 pm

I warn you they are 37 years old and very warn. But some would say they have character ;). Seriously this is not an asking for value thread. Any team have any interest in Joe Ingles for a trade exemption and a conditional second (the kind that are designed not to convey.)

I miss Jingles and ORL desperately needs some playmaking and crafty vet crap-talking...but, No. He was barely ambulatory by the middle of the season. I'd welcome him as an Asst Coach.

I'd love him in Dallas, but can't take back his min salary even without moving other money. Don't even care he'd never play. One of my favorite dudes.

Ingls is a much better locker room vet/mentor. He also gets you to salary floor

Ehh. Those aren’t reasons to me to make a trade. With the Wolves remaining assets, the best Detroit gets out of this is a second round pick swap or cash to cover Joes contract. And you’re still adding a player who most likely doesn’t play much for them.

If they can get paid cash to take on someone else's min guy, they should do that. Unless they have their eyes on a young player to sign to a Hinkie special.

But in terms of a roster spot? A fun-loving, trash-talking, guy who can still help you on offense a bit with a 2nd unit in spots? Could do a lot worse.

And yeah cash is all Detroit should get. Enough to cover his prorated salary plus say $500k profit. No reason to scoff at that if nothing else materializes today. Because there is a deadline here.

I'd love for Jingles to bookend his career in Utah. I don't think that the Jazz braintrust would, but I'd cut Svi to open up a spot to bring him back.

It’s a great reason to make a trade, as you’d probably get paid to take him on and get to the salary floor by tonight’s deadline so you can get your possible $20m luxury tax distribution payment. You could always waive him later for the roster spot, and you’d still have been paid something to take him on.

That’s all fair, I’m just hoping it’s more a salary dump with assets kind of thing. Either as the 3rd or 4th in a big trade or something small like getting a couple small contracts sent with assets to get some team under the tax line.

If the Wolves send Ingles and cash, it wouldn’t be horrible. Was just kind of hoping for someone at least playable

I think your return as the 3rd team in is still coming. But more of a deadline deal where two apron teams want to make a deal and Detroit facilitates and gets their beak wet for helping out. Don't lose hope on that.

Let me stop you there.

1. The Wolves are a second apron team, they cannot trade cash.

2. The Wolves have a partial guarantee on Dozier and would simply cut him and keep Jingles before attaching assets to move Jingles.

3. The Wolves are active in the trade market and would obviously look to add either Dozier or Jingles or both to a deal to free up roster space for guys who get waived.

This isn’t about trying to get value out of the Wolves because the Wolves are desperate. This about asking if your team wants him in the locker room enough to take him off our hands knowing he is free. Think putting a piece of furniture on the curb with a free sign because you don’t want to pay to dispose of it ;)

I doubt any team would want him midseason without payment. Those kind of vet acquisitions make the most sense before training camp.

Just plan on waiving Dozier for his non guarantee, I guess?

That is very likely what happens. Then again, some teams might want him, and it never hurts to ask.

I can see why even having a minimum salary is expensive for MIN, who’s paying a lux multiplier of 4.25 on every dollar of salary.

Aside from that, some bench players are simply not going to get much playing time, so you probably can’t do much better using that roster spot on a guy like Jingles that contributes in the locker room and practice.

Jingles all the way!

I’d trade either of Dallas’ cheerleaders (Keiff/Powell) to Detroit with cash for him.

Not sure the team feels the same though.

Dallas sends Dwight Powell and Olivier Maxcene-Prosper to Detroit with a second or something for the Pistons taking extra money onto their salary. Kieff gets sent to Minnesota. Wolves send Ingles to Dallas. Pistons send Wendell Moore Jr to Dallas.

Mavs save money and get Ingles. Take a look at Moore.

Wolves switch from Ingles to Kieff

Pistons get a veteran big to help Duren, replace the project of Reed with the project of Prosper. Get small compensation for taking on extra money.

I’d need to know a lot more about Moore. But considering Detroit didn’t pick up his option, it feels like this is a bad idea for Dallas.

To use Prosper to turn our loyal cheerleader into a different cheerleader feels unwise.
