DET sends: Jaden Ivey, Tim Hardaway Jr.

Sensible swap of poor-fitting backcourt players. Additionally, DET gets a strong additional prospect and ORL gets some financial relief down the road.

DET gets the perfect complementary backcourt player for Cade...a long, fierce defender who has hit 3's at around 40% for a decade. Solid vet influence and impact on defensive culture. Ivey is coming along nicely, but he's never been a good fit with Cade. Jett returns to Michigan with a better opportunity to develop and shine as an off-ball sniper and developing playmaker.

ORL gets a young, athletic, offensive force, just as he's starting to "get it". He still has 2 more years on his rookie deal before he becomes an RFA. Beautiful fit in the backcourt with Suggs and AB. Hardaway is a proven 3pt sniper on a fairly large expiring deal. He could contribute immediately, but at the very least, it's a good fiscal move. He's 32, perhaps he likes the fit and sticks around on a team-friendly deal. If not, that's fine too. KCP has done nothing wrong and has delivered defensively, as promised, but AB's growth makes KCP expendable.

Can't imagine Detroit punts on Ivey for KCP. Forget the concerns about the season he's having, they aren't ready for a 5th starter. They are still trying to find core pieces. Maybe Ivey isn't that, but don't punt for a guy who definitely isn't.

No, just no. Jett Howard is the type of free agent that Troy Weaver would have signed calling him a reclamation project. KCP has started his career descent. The heavy wear and tear of playing time he’s gotten over his career and his age is starting to get to him. We don’t want your free agent mistake.

Bickerstaff is trying to undo what Monty Williams did to Ivey.

You at least have to add a first and then the Pistons probably still decline.

Ivey still has a ton of issues. Bad shot selection, turnovers, getting lost on the court. He looks better this year, but the gaem is yet to "slow down" for him and he is still a net negative

But we are still looking for our core -- we have Cade, Beef Stew, and a bunch of questions -- and of all the rest of the roster, I'd pick Ivey as the highest potential. He is an elite athlete and a prototypical combo-guard who will make your jaw drop in amazement as often as shake your head in frustration. Still hanging on to the potential . . .

Fit between Cade and Ivey is not a problem. Cade fits with anyone. His improved defense this year makes that moreso the case. Ivey’s improved outside shooting helps the fit as well. Ivey has a lot of development to do still as a player, but that’s not a fit issue.

KCP has played 5 (five) games with Paolo. We don't know what his offense will look like once he is getting kick outs from our best player. He is top 5 in most defensive metrics and is the best player in this trade. Yall look at his 3p% with in 20ish games where we have been missing players constantly and think the dude is "falling off". It's wild.

I understand keeping Ivey because of age though.

So even looking at it like that, it’s just simply not a fit. Pistons aren’t a good defensive wing away from really competing. So all that’s being done is eating up some cap space to make the Pistons ever so slightly better. No thanks

I am not a fan of Ivey but this is not swapping equivalent misfits, maybe throw in some draft capital or Tristan da Silva or something. Otherwise it's a pass.

Magic isn't giving up on KCP this quickly. He was their biggest free agent signing in a decade.
