ATL Gets: Trey Lyles & 2025 SAC 1st (changing from top 12 protected to unprotected)
ATL Gives: Larry Nance Jr, 2025 MIN 2nd, & 2027 LAC 2nd
Why for ATL? With Johnson, Risacher, Hunter, Capela, and Okongwu all able to log minutes at PF or C, it leaves little room for Nance to carve out minutes. Instead, they ship him off and a couple 2nds for an expiring (Lyles) and to make the SAC pick completely unprotected. This gives ATL two swings at winning the lottery via the LAL pick and SAC pick (both of which are currently 11th and 12th in tankathon rankings)

Why for BKN? The Nets move on from their likely expiring 31 year old 3&D forward and lean further into their rebuild by adding for 4 2nd round picks spread out over the next 3 years and take a look at the 26 year old Huerter.

SF - Johnson / Williams / Whitehead
PF - Simmons / Wilson / Watford
C - Claxton / Sharpe / Clowney

SAC Gets: Dorian Finney-Smith & Larry Nance Jr.
SAC Gives: Kevin Huerter, Trey Lyles, 2025 SAC 1st (changing from top 12 protected to unprotected), 2026 SAC 2nd, & 2027 SAC 2nd
Why for Kings? DFS gives the Kings another really good big wing/forward defender (Murray) to throw at opposing teams stars. He’s also a really good fit at PF next to Sabonis considering his size, length, athleticism, defense, rim/paint protection, and shooting. Larry Nance Jr is also another very intriguing fit for the Kings. He’s got really good length (9’0” standing reach and a 7’1.5” wingspan) with a good vertical (37.5” max very) which will allow him to play backup C for us. He’s also a good defender (especially in the PnR) who moves his feet well for his size/length. Offensively, he gives us an excellent lob threat (which Monk will salivate over) but he can also pop out to knock down the 3 as well. With his athleticism, he can get out in transition with guys like Fox & Monk and help us convert those opportunities at a higher rate. A 9 man rotation of Fox, Monk, Ellis, Carter, DeRozan, Murray, DFS, Nance, & Sabonis is really solid and well balanced. Lastly, although we unprotected our 2025 1st, it does free up our ability to trade all of our future 1sts next offseason if a bigger move is warranted.

I hate the risk of unprotecting the pick(though get why you are doing it) but like the fits of the players the Kings get.

Would Atlanta pay two 2nds hoping the Kings can't get their wheels back on knowing they helped shore up the team? I have some doubts though I absolutely think they should. Unprotected firsts from a team that feels like a play-in team at best are what they should strive for. And they know all about hitting lottery gold just from last year with a huge jump up.

Good trade, though I'd be nervous doing this as the Kings.

It’s intriguing. What makes me extra nervous is Kevin is one of the few who can make a 3 these days and Smith seems inconsistent though he is shooting well now.

That and being in the lottery is a real possibility in the west this year.

Yeah I would do this for Atlanta.

Overall it makes the Kings better, but you can get Larry Nance for less than this. Too good for the Hawks, not enough for the Nets when you factor in Huerter's contract.

We can always add more 2nds from ATL to BKN to balance it out. I have ATL sending out…

…but they have the ability to add the following 2nds to get the deal done…

2026 MEM 2nd (protected 43-60)
2028 HOU 2nd
2030 ATL 2nd
2031 ATL 2nd

I'm not sure Brooklyn wants to get stuck with future salary that they don't want for a bunch of 2nds.

More than likely this would end up being a minor negative-to-neutral trade for us, but obviously there's a good bit of upside with the SAC pick, even if the odds of it landing in the lottery are relatively small. And even though I think Nance is the better player, Lyles might fill a bigger need for us as the backup PF, as opposed to Nance, who's basically been operating as our 3rd center and has been out of the rotation for the most part.

Yeah im down with this one for the Hawks i would do it i think.

I can't see any way this would go negative for ATL. It's basically a bench PF and 2 2nds (most likely both are in the 40's) for probably the 17th overall pick (at worst). If SAC is willing to give up an unprotected 1st this is a no brainer.

Not a horrible deal for Brooklyn but taking back Hueter and not getting a first round pick or young prospect means that the Nets might be able to do better.

Gotta keep in mind that that Hawks already own the lottery-protected Kings pick. So this trade would go negative for the Hawks if the Kings make the playoffs, which means the pick would've conveyed to us anyways. In that scenario, we would be trading away two 2nd's while also (slightly) downgrading the talent on our roster. Those potential "negatives" are on the margins, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it, especially if it meant we have a chance of getting a lottery pick in a stacked draft. But just pointing out that there is indeed risk for Atlanta here.

I’d do this in a heartbeat for Sac and I’m not sweating the unprotected pick.

Our two biggest holes and needs (Defense while still maintaining shooting, and size) are filled. We instantly have a playoff caliber nine man rotation and actually more since the other guys have been playing meaningful minutes.

We also actually open up a ton of pick flexibility for trades by having the pick convey and on longer be in limbo.
