BKN - POR - SAC (DeRozan on the Move)
---------------------------------------
BKN Gets: Trey Lyles, 2027 POR/NOP 2nd (less favorable of the two), 2029 SAC 2nd, 2030 NYK 2nd, & 2031 POR 2nd
BKN Gives: Dorian Finney-Smith
Why for BKN? The Nets move on from their likely expiring 31 year old 3&D forward and lean further into their rebuild by adding for 4 2nd round picks while also maintaining their cap space for the 2025 offseason.
PG - Melton / Milton
SG - Thomas / Williams / Johnson
SF - Johnson / Whitehead / Watford
PF - Simmons / Wilson / Lyles
C - Claxton / Sharpe / Clowney
---------------------------------------
POR Gets: DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Huerter, & Devin Carter
POR Gives: Jerami Grant, Robert Williams, 2027 POR/NOP 2nd (less favorable of the two), 2030 NYK 2nd, & 2031 POR 2nd
Why for POR? The Blazers land a lottery pick from this past draft in Devin Carter that should be an excellent fit next to their young guards/wings going forward. They also get DeRozan who would be an awesome vet to have mentor their young guys and teach them how to be a professional, take care of their body, etc. DeRozan (and Huerter) could also be flipped down the road for some minor assets if they play well.
PG - Simons / Henderson / Banton
SG - Sharpe / Carter / Rupert
SF - DeRozan / Huerter / Thybulle
PF - Avdija / Camara / Murray / Walker
C - Ayton / Clingan / Reath
---------------------------------------
SAC Gets: Jerami Grant, Dorian Finney-Smith, & Robert Williams
SAC Gives: DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Huerter, Trey Lyles, Devin Carter, & 2029 SAC 2nd
Why for Kings? The Kings move on from the DeRozan experiment and prioritize size, length, athleticism, shooting, and defense. Both Grant & DFS are long forwards that can help improve the defense while also helping Sabonis protect the rim/paint. Both of them can also space the floor and really open up the paint for Fox, Monk, and Sabonis to attack the rim (DeRozan is a clunky fit with his 3PT shooting). Although we're losing DeRozan's creation/scoring, Grant can help pickup that slack which still gives us 4 go-to scorers to rely on (Fox, Monk, Grant, & Sabonis). Williams gives us a great backup C who is a terrific defender/rim protector and would be an excellent lob threat for Monk to throw passes to in the PnR. After this trade, I'd prefer to move Monk back to the bench and start a very big & long lineup of Fox - Murray - DFS - Grant - Sabonis. That's a lot of length, athleticism, defense, and shooting around Fox & Sabonis (not to mention another go-to scorer in Grant to fall back on). Then you have the Monk & Robert Williams combo coming off the bench which should be able to generate a lot of PnR offense.
PG - Fox / Monk / McLaughlin
SG - Murray / Ellis / Jones
SF - DFS/ McDermott
PF - Grant / Crowder / Jones
C - Sabonis / Williams / Len / Robinson
---------------------------------------

Re: BKN - POR - SAC (DeRozan on the Move)
On a general level, Sacramento won't ship DeRozan to NBA-Siberia after he just signed a contract there. Total betrayal. Sacramento already has problems attracting free agents. I can't imagine they'd burn all good will from agents for the next decade. If they trade DeRozan, it would be a trade he approves to a contender.
For the Blazers, we have no use for DeRozan but I think Huerter, Carter, an expiring, and a bunch of 2nds is pretty fair for Grant and Williams. But maybe I'm higher on Carter than other Blazer fans.

Then perhaps a 4th team is involved that would be interested in taking DeRozan (which also gives him a chance to compete now)

Don't love it for Portland. I like getting off of Grant's contract for a shorter Derozan one, but would want him immediately moved elsewhere. I suppose it's because I have very little interest in Carter. I'm tired of Portland having small backcourts, and Carter seems like a 6'3" SG that isn't some dynamic scorer.

Hardest of passes for POR.
I like Carter but the tax to acquire him (DDR whom POR should not want. At all. Plus various picks.) makes this a non-starter.

I like Carter, but I think you are overvaluing him here.
I wouldn't do this trade for Portland... I don't think this is particularly close either.
Also - I don't think Nets would pull the trigger on this trade either.

I agree with this.
Lakers (DLo/picks/salary) make good sense as a 4th team here, or even Nuggets (MPJ is young enough).
I’ll tell you what. This year will make for a very interesting Western conference, and a very crappy and tankful East.

Where do you think Carter would go if he was, say, injured right before the '24 draft, withdrew and spent a year rehabbing, and re-entered the '25 draft? I'm not a draft guy, but based on vibes I'd say maybe mid-20s or something? Don't really know.
If my vibes-based draft valuation is right, a mid-20s '25 pick, 2nds, Huerter, and an expiring for Grant+RWIII is fair imo as a Blazer fan. But again, maybe I overrate Carter.

He may be worthy of a pick in the 20s, but I don’t think he is the guy Portland would pick in the 20s.

Perhaps LAL would be interested in acquiring DeRozan (and it sends DeRozan back home to LA and to a team that wants to win now).
As for Carter, he plays much bigger than his height. He has almost a 6’9” wingspan and has a 35” standing vert and 42” max vert. Not to mention he is quite strong and can’t be pushed off his spots easily. Lastly, his athletic measurements were ridiculously good at the combine. I mentioned his vertical but go look at his speed and agility times. He’s a pretty impressive athlete.
I see Devin Carter as a Derrick White, Marcus Smart, Jrue Holiday, Alex Caruso, Donte DiVincenzo, etc. type player, but if he does end up developing his offensive game more, he at least has the he elite athleticism to give him a high ceiling. His combination of strength, length, and athleticism reminds me of Donovan Mitchell but he has ways to go to catchup to him skillwise offensively.
I’m very high on Devin Carter if you can’t tell

Perhaps sending DeRozan to another team makes this a yes from POR. Carter + cap flexibility/relief + a Huerter reclamation project seems like a good haul for those vets/contracts.

Possibly, but who would want to give up assets for his services?

I could see LAL being interested in him, and I could see DeRozan happy about going there (which is important for the Kings so they can save face in front of future FAs) since LA is his home and the Lakers are trying to win now.

Portland says hell no. Not only is it a terrible management of value, Portland is the last destination for derozan at this point.

Re: BKN - POR - SAC (DeRozan on the Move)
I'm shocked fans think Jerami Grant is positive value. The guy is clearly not worth his contract. Then we have Robert Williams who can't stay healthy to save his life.
If I'm Portland I couldnt accept fast enough. Shuffle two meaningless guys for two meaningless guys and get a lotto pick for free.
Sac is desperate but this doesn't seem like the answer either. Id just do the Nets portion and add 2nds myself.

The trade seems designed to help the Kings at other teams expense. I certainly think the Nets are going to want a 1st of some kind for DFS.

Re: BKN - POR - SAC (DeRozan on the Move)
This is distant from what Porland is supposedly looking for. Pretty soon the GM and ownership will be giving up on the season and Chauncey Billips. Once that happens both Grant and Williams will probably be attempted to be traded for picks. Firsts though, not seconds. They will also push to give playing time to the numerous young players on the roster. Derozen and Huerter aren't the type of players a rebuilding team would want nor would they want to be there. I like Carter, but not enough to tip the scales into make this proposal even close to appealing to Portland.

I had a hard time finding an obvious 4th team for DeRozan.

I respect DeRozan and wanted the Blazers to target him during the Dame era. He is no longer a fit, but I still consider this for the savings. The other proposal is better, of course.
