BKN - LAC - POR - SAC (DeRozan on the Move Part II)

Post#1 » by bpcox05 » Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:48 pm

---------------------------------------

BKN Gets: Trey Lyles, Bones Hyland, Amir Coffey, 2026 LAC/MEM 2nd (Less favorable of the two), 2027 POR/NOP 2nd (Less favorable of the two), 2030 LAC/UTA 2nd (Less favorable for the two), & 2031 LAC 2nd
BKN Gives: Dorian Finney-Smith
Why for BKN? The Nets move on from their likely expiring 31 year old 3&D forward and lean further into their rebuild by adding for 4 2nd round picks and maintaining their cap space for 2025 since Lyles, Hyland, and Coffey are all expirings.

PG - Melton / Hyland / Milton
SG - Thomas / Coffey / Johnson
SF - Johnson / Williams / Whitehead / Watford
PF - Simmons / Wilson / Lyles
C - Claxton / Sharpe / Clowney

---------------------------------------

LAC Gets: DeMar DeRozan
LAC Gives: PJ Tucker, Bones Hyland, Amir Coffey, 2026 LAC/MEM 2nd (Less favorable of the two), 2030 LAC/UTA 2nd (Less favorable for the two), & 2031 LAC 2nd
Why for LAC? The Clippers are 19th in ORTG and 6th in DRTG. They could really use another shotmaker to help carry the offense (especially since Leonard rarely plays). If Leonard is able to come back healthy, perhaps a Leonard, Harden, & DeRozan trio (surrounded by lengthy defenders who can space the floor) is enough to make some noise in the western conference. They could even look at making DeRozan a super 6th man which would allow the Clippers to prioritize a strong defensive starting lineup out of the gate.

PG - Harden / Dunn / Porter
SG - Powell / Mann / Christie
SF - DeRozan / Jones
PF - Leonard / Batum / Brown
C - Zubac / Bamba

---------------------------------------

POR Gets: Kevin Huerter, PJ Tucker, & Devin Carter
POR Gives: Jerami Grant, Robert Williams, & 2027 POR/NOP 2nd (Less favorable of the two)
Why for POR? The Blazers trade their "win now" vets and lean into their rebuild while at the same time save a lot of money this year, free up future cap, and add a recent lottery pick to their asset pool

PG - Simons / Henderson / Banton
SG - Sharpe / Carter / Rupert
SF - Camara / Huerter / Thybulle
PF - Avdija / Murray / Walker / Tucker
C - Ayton / Clingan / Reath

---------------------------------------

SAC Gets: Jerami Grant, Dorian Finney-Smith, & Robert Williams
SAC Gives: DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Huerter, Trey Lyles, & Devin Carter
Why for Kings? The Kings move on from the DeRozan experiment and prioritize size, length, athleticism, shooting, and defense. Both Grant & DFS are long forwards that can help improve the defense while also helping Sabonis protect the rim/paint. Both of them can also space the floor and really open up the paint for Fox, Monk, and Sabonis to attack the rim (DeRozan is a clunky fit with his 3PT shooting). Although we're losing DeRozan's creation/scoring, Grant can help pickup that slack which still gives us 4 go-to scorers to rely on (Fox, Monk, Grant, & Sabonis). Williams gives us a great backup C who is a terrific defender/rim protector and would be an excellent lob threat for Monk to throw passes to in the PnR. After this trade, I'd prefer to move Monk back to the bench and start a very big & long lineup of Fox - Murray - DFS - Grant - Sabonis. That's a lot of length, athleticism, defense, and shooting around Fox & Sabonis (not to mention another go-to scorer in Grant to fall back on). Then you have the Monk & Robert Williams combo coming off the bench which should be able to generate a lot of PnR offense.

PG - Fox / Monk / McLaughlin
SG - Murray / Ellis / Jones
SF - DFS / McDermott
PF - Grant / Crowder / Jones
C - Sabonis / Williams / Len / Robinson

Pass for POR.

Looking for picks, not expensive vets.

Tucker is an expiring and Huerter has 1 more year on his deal. And the obvious prize is Carter who was just taken 13th in this last draft.

Portland is the one sending out the expensive vets…they’re not the ones receiving them.

Don't see Portland going for this. Hard to see this for any of the teams except Sac.

Huerter + Tucker >= Grant
Carter > R.Will and a 2nd

Portland is getting too good of a deal here if anything to me

Then no one will mind if we pass on it.

Which we do.

- a lottery pick from this most recent draft
- $9 mil in cap savings this year
- $80 mil in cap savings over the next 3 years

Considering what POR is giving up, the return seems more than justified.

For OP,

I think a Carter/Huerter for DFS/Sharpe deal is much simpler/cleaner

Carter hasn't even played a single minute yet, Tucker is old and washed and Huerters shooting percentages are way down.

Agreed. This version I do. Not the DeRozan version.

Grants shooting is also way down and owed alot of money. RWill is a giant health risk and isnt worth more than 2nds imo

Agreed. Though if I'm giving Carter I think I want Cam.

Carter, Huerter, Lyles, For Cam Johnson, Sharpe.

I can't stress enough how disinterested I am in Grant. What a bad contract for a meh player. Portland needs him gone to start Deni.

Probably need to throw in another 1st then based on Brooklyn's asking price

Adding a DeRozen type is one of the few ways the Clippers can improve their roster with the lack of assets. However, this would be a last ditch type of move as they don't need a shot maker, as much as they need a floor general type when Harden sits. Platooning Porter, Mann and Dunn in that role has been a failure.

Also would rather do Kobe and keep Amir if it were to come to fruition. Coffey has been playing very well and id take him over some JAGs that have been valued highly in recent years, like a Kenrich Williams for example

I agree-looks great for Port. Carter could be really nice long term for them, and they save a TON of $

I think that’s an overpay on the Kings side. DFS is worth a few 2nds and Sharpe is neutral at best. I wouldn’t give up a lottery pick for that type of package.

Sharpe is probably worth a second or 2.
Huertrr is negative matching.
Carter is no longer worth a lotto pick (esp in a weak draft) after not playing a single game

Not seeing that asking price as realistic. A recent lotto pick seems like plenty. I'm at 2nds for DFS. A single 1st or Carter for Cam. If that doesn't work id move on. Kings aren't good enough to overpay for non stars.

I don't like this version either. Disregarding value, this time isn't what Portland is looking for.
