Not sure if this is kind of steep but guess OKC rotation is set for the next 2 years at least .

It's on value for his skill level. Caruso is a 4th or 5th guy on a contender. This salary puts him at around 11% of cap, which is fair value.

Kcp makes 22 a year. caruso in the same tier of role player. Think it’s fair money for him. He a game changer some nights.

I’m not sure this will look great in four years. Role players over 30 are always a risk.

As a Clipper fan, I hate this and hope it doesn't price us out of trying to keep Dunn after next year (I believe that he would have three bird years as he was a S&T acquisition this summer from Utah)

He’s a 6th or 7th guy on a contender right now

Yeah OKC are stacked at the typical 4th or 5th guy spot.
They got their top 3 guys
Then they got 4 guys that could be a 4th or 5th: Dort, iHart, Caruso, Cason

Def don't mean it to the extent he'd want around $20aav, but if he keeps up his play from the first quarter of the year until then, could see him going from being fine around 8-10 to expecting closer to 15 with this being a reason.
Obviously hope I am wrong and you are right tho

And?
Elite, elite perimeter defender on the best defense (ever?) in the Association. Teams still guard him so the spacing is still there.
Harping on small sample percentages of low volume shooters whose value lies elsewhere is weird.

I think he will get paid by the Clippers anyway no?

He's probably worth this much, but being able to pay an Alex Caruso $20M is a luxury few teams have.

Yeah, they're paying for his career average, but $20M per is a lot for a guy his size who's not even averaging 6 ppg in his current role.

His advanced stats have been consistently massive, he's an impact player, way way larger than his counting stats, age and injury are a concern, but at this price, minor concern...

I’m more concern about his probability of being healthy at 33-34 than his % , PPG .. but yea that 20m per year is a slight concern cause of his health.

I would grade this a D+.
You have to remember he was already under contract this season, so this pushes him to where he is 35 years old. 20 million for OKC right now feels cheap, but Chet, JDub are both due Max Contracts in 2 years. SGA Super duper max (70+ yr?) will be on the books for 2 years eventually along with this new Caruso deal too.
The issue with me is the length, I feel like a 2/50 extension would have made more sense for OKC because you also are eventually going to want to pay a younger Cason. I just don't think in 2 years many teams are going to value a 33 year old Caruso making 20+ million as a trade asset.
Type of deal that loses them a Hartenstein or Dort in FA a few years from now.

Probably an ugly contact down-the-line, but honestly it is what it is. Locking down talent is generally worth it. Letting Alex Caruso walk was a pretty devastating mistake by the Los Angeles Lakers, I understand OKC’s reason for locking him up, even if the fourth year is rough.
