Josh Green Offers

Would not be a sexy acquisition, but so far this appears to not be working out in Charlotte based on our record. Green is shooting 41% from three and he can guard 1-3 with high effort. Not looking for anything crazy in return, but seems like the type of player that could be a good 7th/8th man rotation player in a playoff series for a contender ala Milwaukee/Phoenix/Clippers/Lakers etc... Has playoff experience 39 games played.

Charlotte looking to bring back less LT money or 2nd round draft capital.

When it comes to having to eat crow vs taking victory laps over my takes, I'm probably at a (generous) 14 to 1 ratio. But I was absolutely spot on when it comes to Josh Green.

You know, I think we all have player archetypes we irrationally like. For instance, a lot of people really admire midrange maestros despite the overwhelming evidence that their arsenals are of questionable worth. Same goes for back-to-the-basket scorers with nifty footwork and impressive core strength.

For me, it seems to be the pesky, aggressive, undersized wing -- what with the leaping around, getting out in transition, making the occasional spectacular play, and frequently looking the part of a high-activity player. In college, I think these guys really shine because their skills in other departments don't have to be NBA-sharp, while their athleticism and hustle overwhelms clearly lesser NCAA competition. They tease us with promises of lockdown defense and some all-around game. In recent years, I've fallen for Josh Green, Isaac Okoro, and Matisse Thybulle, among others.

I've had to disabuse myself of the notion that these players have meaningful utility. The pedestrian skills do not translate to NBA productivity, and the running and jumping around are simply average, not exceptional, by NBA standards. You've got bigger, stronger players who can do the high-effort D thing just as well as they can, plus battle bigger players on the glass and maybe even rim protect, all the while also being capable scorers, playmakers, etc. at the other end. In the contemporary NBA, my dudes just don't shoot or score or create or measure up enough to merit many minutes.

^^Cool story, bro. I know.

All I'm saying is that in the past I probably would have come running to a thread like this eager for my team to offer something up for Green. Nowadays, I see where OP, like Dallas fans before him, is coming from: it's just not worth paying much for these guys or relying on them to be featured players. They can stick as part-time role players or non-critical minutes-fillers, but they just don't do much. High energy, low impact. I think despite a relatively inoffensive contract, Green may be difficult to move.

I wouldn't mind him on the Clippers, but that's more due to having watched him in AAU and such (esp the West Coast Elite 100 when him and Nico Mansion were on the same squad) than anything else. He definitely wouldn't be in the playoffs rotation, even if Kawhi is out. Assuming the starters are Dunn-Harden-Norm-Jones-Zu, the next four will be Porter-Mann-Coffey-Batum.

But, say, if Clips could finagle a set of seconds (say worst of 25 Philly/Denver, 27 and 29) along with Green and Micic (or Martin) for PJ, Bones and Bamba, I'd be all for it. Don't think either fan base or front office would, but it saves Charlotte $3M in salaries. Clips can then flip Porter with a second (believe he can be traded with nothing coming back as he's a min?) to save all but half a mil they add on. Or Kobe, but would need a cap team or one with a TPE.

.

Odd thing to say he wouldn't be in PO rotation of the Clippers when he just was in the rotation of a finals team.
Josh Green is an 8th man type, he's a guard, not a wing, he's too small for big wings, jack of all trades master of none.
Knocks down open shots, but reluctant to go for high volumes.
Very active defender with ultra quick feet, but bad screen navigator and low BB IQ
Can attack close outs but again, unwilling, and can make dumb decisions.
Willing and able to run in the open court, but again, suspect decision making at times.
Can make brilliant passes.
He's paid sub MLE which is the ball park of what he's supposed to, maybe 2-3 millions more.

Who does he knock out in the 9-man rotation I posted, and that's without Kawhi? Nico at times plays de facto at the five, and Porter is needed as the bench has no real ball handlers (kinda sad that he's a key cog with his subpar play). Amir has been quite the Folger Soldier, the perfect JAG basically. I guess he could take T's place if Mann doesn't bounce back?

And yeah, I know his game real well. Been watching him since HS/AAU

Would peg him above Dunn for example, we'll see if Lue can afford non scorers on the perimeter in the PO with non spacing center and DJJ on the floor.
We'll see about Porter, I think Clippers will trade for a PG, don't trust this guy in the PO.

DLO + 2 SRP for Green and Richards

I'd take Josh Green on the Sixers.

But the offer would only be KJ Martin, Eric Gordon, Ricky Council, and a 2nd. Which I imagine someone else outbids.

Still on his island, but all the critiques itt of him are fair. I like him on Charlotte though. One thing a team that has been mediocre this long desperately needs are guys who play really really hard. Coaches need to be able to bench the guys who have become jaded by the losing and having super try hard guy to point to as to how to get your minutes back can help.

24 yo 3 and D big guard on a fair contract. I don’t really think Charlotte should be trading him unless they get a really good return. His trade value isn’t really great, but I’d guess there are teams that would give a couple seconds. He is a legit rotation player on most teams.

Yeah he is definitely a rotation piece, but right now I don't love his fit on this team.

Still open to offers

I think Miami could make something of him. They have a history of hard workers succeeding.
Duncan Robinson for Green.
Hornets gain cap space next season and another shooter this season.
Miami gets a young player with some maybe upside while lowering their LT payment to the point that it basically covers Greens salary next season in a roundabout way.

How would Charlotte save money next year?

Robinson is opting into that 20 million PO 10/10 times.

He's just a guy. Seems like he should be better than what he is, considering the minutes he gets.

Yeah I mean he's JAG signed to a too-big but by no means crippling deal. Maybe if you package him with some 2nds a team with a hole in their guard rotation might take him for expirings, but that doesn't really seem worth it for CHA.

Would think CLT just keeps him now that the season is mostly decided. He’s a good guy to have on the roster and isn’t an asset.

Unless the salary slot is needed in a bigger trade and CLT needs/wants to use him on top of their expiring, I don’t expect any team to call looking for Josh Green. Few teams would mind having him off the bench though.

For me, Charlotte is probably heading for a top 7 draft pick from the way things look. A strong chance that player is starting for us next year over Josh Green. Having Green and Cody Martin off the bench together is a bit overkill.

I would be open to moving him for all expirings and 1 2nd round pick as the fit with the starting lineup has not worked out.

He is ideally the 8th man on a really good playoff team that can play 15-20 mins while fitting in and making corner 3s. Charlotte is just not good enough to have that luxury in our starting lineup right now.

Yeah, as someone that constantly defended him when he was a Maverick. I agree with this take. A lot of people wanted him to develop into more than he was ever really expected/drafted to..

But I don’t know if a team is giving up a second since they have to pay him more than he’s worth to be that role. He’s only overpaid by a couple million a year and wouldn’t kill any deal I don’t think - just don’t see who is targeting him.
