[Shams] Lakers acquire DFS and Shake Milton for D'lo, Maxwell Lewis, and three seconds.

Lakers desperately needed defense and DFS was one of the very few 3D guys on the market. But not sure he's a game changer.

I get Russell has been the punching bag for a while in LA but I don't really get why this is finally the move they decided on. DFS is a risk and Milton is an even bigger one.

This seems more like a 2nd apron flexibility move more than anything for the Lakers.

Feels like an overpay by a Lewis? Also, Russell has a large contract, but he’s not bad. And he’s expiring.

Just, weird.

Also, Brooklyn is setting the market for this years deadline.

Role player wing = expiring + multiple SRP’s
Role player guard on expiring = two SRP’s

At this point I see Brooklyn keeping Cam then trading him.

Is the LA return better than Kennard, Konchar, 1st (heavily pr’d) or 3 2nds?

I would guess that was leaked (and maybe not a solid offer, or a conditional offer) to get some solid offers in to Broooklyn?

I'd pay this for DFS, specifically LAL isn't the team I expected, they have 3 PFs on roster before DFS

Given all the love between the LA and MEM franchises, it could easily be the case

This feels like a win for the Lakers, many on here kept saying DFS would get a 1st rounder. Lakers keep both their future firsts and can still be big players at the deadline if they want.

Nets fans 0/2 on players they said would get a first back.

so did the Nets put out there the rumor about the Grizzlies giving up a 1st to try to bump DFS' trade value?

Nope and likely was fake leverage. I would have liked to get him for Kennard and some 2nds but didn't want any part of offering a future 1st like was rumored.

The price here was exactly as expected from most non Nets fan. I think I would have paid more and kept Russell out of it if possible. Russell has his warts but the Lakers had a higher upside if he found his grove back and send out a guy like Vincent instead. But maybe Russell was beyond repair and this is best bet for the Lakers, or they just didn't want to send out a future 1st or likely both... Hard to know for sure.

Lakers going to make another move for a guard. Shake actually has looked good, wouldn't be surprised to see him in rotation for Lakers too.

Or maybe a Kennard/Konchar 2nds for Russell flip is in the works. We could have been working on a 3 way that didn't happen yet and the details coming out were wrong.

I wouldn't mind Russell as a 6th man here if he was willing to buy into that role.

Apparently, the Grizzlies were insisting on protections on the FRP that made it unlikely to convey. The Nets didn't want Konchar's additional 2 years without that FRP. They were willing to convey 2nds back to get that FRP.

With the covert swiftness of the Schroder and DFS deals, I think the Nets are setting the table for CamJ offers. We'd like to move quickly and quietly, so play negotiating chicken at your own risk. Also, there's now no real Plan B to CamJ for those pursuing moderately priced wing upgrades.

They still have Ben Simmons on the roster

I doubt that. I can see that we lack DFS’s ability to guard big, physical guys. I am not sure what we are missing in Russel given our bench is already the best.

What are the 2nds?

The Lakers 2025 2nds (theirs and LAC) are right now 52 and 53. So… not nothing, that IS something… there are some nice foreign stashes gonna go in the 50s this year … but it’s not really much. LAL also has their own 2nds in 27, 30 and 31… those would be better from BRK’s point of view.

So what are the pick years?

DLo could be traded elsewhere or get bought out. He could damage the tank, and there's some bad blood/hurt feelings from his last stint in Brooklyn.
