Do Bucks make moves now or this Summer?

Post#1 » by drchaos » Tue Dec 31, 2024 2:47 pm

For a team with one of the top five players in the league, the Milwaukee Bucks are a mess.

With a record of 16-14 the only reason they could make the playoffs this year is that they are playing in the East.

All of their starters are over 30 and can leave at the end of the year through player options or unrestricted free agency.

They have either given up their first round picks or pick swaps for the next few years.

Do they blow it up now or wait until Giannis leaves this Summer?

They started 2-8. They’re 14-6 since. I think they just keep playing the 14-6 type play, and end up with a record that would climb the standings. They’d only be “out of the playoffs in the West” by a half game right now.

Small moves in the season as they’ve done the last decade, and if there’s any major moves, it’s the offseason.

After losing to the Nets for the second time in a month I do not think it is realistic to expect the Bucs to play 14-6 type play going forward with their aging roster.

Dame and Giannis are still under contract next season as well.

As for the rest of the roster, I don't see Middleton opting out as it would mean a pay cut. Lopez might actually reup for less. The F.O. will probably be pretty stoked if Portis and Connaughton opt out (they won't). I'm sure the Bucks would love to get out of the second apron.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Yeah, I’m glad I’m not a mod.

As an overreaction to the Brooklyn game.. I’d be more confused why a team paid that much for the right to tank, and then didn’t commit to it.. Lottery means it all might work out, sure. But I’d take 50% over 31% every day..

But Giannis is under contract for another full year. And I’m still waiting on a supermax player to turn it down?

Dame is under contract for next year as well. And if he plays well enough to opt out of his 58 million dollars for 2027, Milwaukee will be very happy.

I do think there’s a realistic Middleton+/Ingram based deal that lets Milwaukee feel a bit better about the age of their core around Giannis.

But you don’t trade a top 2 player in the league unless they ask to be traded. And then you still take your time trading them hoping it doesn’t need to happen.

Does Giannis have a player option at the end of the year or do the Bucs have him locked up?

Completely locked up with Milwaukee for 2 more years after this one, and then a player option on the 3rd season after this one.

I mean, if anyone is offering younger players who are at the same level as their aging vets on court, obviously they should make moves like that. They obviously aren't just going to blow it up unless he asks for a trade though.
